WORD PROCESSOR JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Word Processing
STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
The Word Processor is responsible for document production in various software applications,
telephone help support when necessary, and general office support. The Word Processor will also
have knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, which may include some familiarity of
other departments within the Firm.
JOB DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Document production and editing utilizing Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010 ( Word, Excel
and PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook, Visio, Litera Change Pro, Nuance PDF Converter,
Adobe Acrobat, iScrub, Best Authority, Carpe Diem and similar software.

Assist with document conversion and clean up; create and revise complex legal documents
adhering to Firm styles and guidelines.

Printing complex documents (i.e., Excel spreadsheets, data room sites, etc.) that require
advanced knowledge of software.

Facilitate the creation and editing of Tables of Authorities and Tables of Contents.

Burning CD/DVDs and preparation of labels.

Create CD closing binders that contain hyperlinked indexes and bookmarking PDF's.

Data entry utilizing various software applications and/or transcription of analog or digital
dictation.

Assist in providing telephone help desk support to troubleshoot application questions.

Stay abreast of technology and software changes within the firm in order to be an 'expert' in
document preparation; attend all mandatory training classes.

Assist Word Processing Centers and legal staff in other offices as needed.

Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED SKILLS:

3+ years of word processing/legal secretarial experience at a law firm required.

Minimum typing speed of 70 wpm.

Advanced knowledge of: Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 (including Word, Excel
and PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook, Best Authority (or similar program), Litera ChangePro
(or similar program).

Adobe Acrobat Professional (or similar program); and familiarity with Visio, Carpe Diem,
iScrub and other similar software.

Proficient in iManage or familiarity with document management systems.

Proficient knowledge of various HP and Xerox printers, color printers and scanners.

Knowledge of graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or desktop publishing
is helpful.

Ability to work through complex document markups and instructions in a timely manner.

Ability to juggle various assignments simultaneously.

Flexibility to work overtime, including one weekend day per month, or change shift to
accommodate Firm needs.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Additional college and technical training preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sit in front of a workstation for many hours at a time.

Able to travel to various floors to pick up and drop off work assignments.

Occasionally lift boxes containing documents.
HOURS
5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, with additional hours as needed. Additional hours
and temporary shift changes required to meet the Firm's business needs.
