School Focus 2016 The following areas are priorities for Banksia Grove PS for 2016: Literacy: Key focus: Guided reading. Ongoing- writing and spelling aligned with the expectations of the Western Australian/ Australian Curriculum. Target: To lift NAPLAN scores by 5%. Numeracy: Key Focus Areas: Ongoing-Mental Maths and teaching of mental strategies. 2016: The purchase of more whole school assessment tasks to improve the collection of data. Target: To lift NAPLAN scores by 5%. Quality of teaching: An increased focus on improving teacher practices through the performance management process. Included in this will be the expectation of greater use of data to inform their decisions. The school will aim to lift the quality of its teaching team in Dimension 5 of the National School Improvement Tool from moderate to high. Whole school management: The development of a whole school strategic plan with the identification of more specific targets related to school and cohort achievement. The school will be leasing and purchasing a large amount of ICT equipment in 2016. The aim of this project is to bring the school into line with Department guidelines and to support the teachers in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Science: In order to enhance the link between our Science and the high school’s specialist programs, our specialist teacher will be networking with the teachers from Joseph Banks SC. Attendance: The school will be implementing the SMS program in order to lift our attendance above 70% for both semesters. Behaviour management: We aim to maintain a level of 97%+ of our students in good standing. Teachers to refocus all students on our Code of Conduct and give out coloured bands in acknowledgement of achievements.
