FOREST SCIENCE PROGRAM
Estimates of productive capacity are difficult to
obtain from many forest types, especially very old
and very young stands. To meet this need, Forest
Science Program researchers developed
relationships between site index and ecological site
information for the province in the Site IndexBiogeoclimatic Ecosystem Classification (SIBEC)
project. The new approach of linking SIBEC
estimates of productivity with ecosystem mapping
provides timber supply analysts with tools for more
accurate timber supply forecasts.
