ISTEP TESTING
The second round of ISTEP testing will begin April 19th thru May 6th. Please be sure your son/
daughter gets plenty of rest throughout the week and encourage them to do their very best. Studies show eating breakfast will assist in mental preparation. We strongly encourage you to make

which will cause the student to lose classroom instructional time.

6TH GRADE FIELD TRIP
The sixth grade will be a taking a field trip to Kings Island on Friday, May
13. The cost of the trip is $82 (includes admission to the park, t-shirt,
charter bus transportation, and a meal voucher). This is an increase
from last year, because we have decided to buy meal vouchers with our
tickets. The meal vouchers give the students several options at a cheaper price than buying food the day of the trip. The vouchers will also help
avoid some of the problems we have encountered in the past with students not bringing enough money for food, or spending all of their money on souvenirs and not
having enough money left for food at the end of the day. Any questions regarding the trip should be
directed to Miss Jones.
7TH GRADE CHICAGO FIELD TRIP
The 7th Grade Chicago Field Trip this year will be on May 20, 2016. We will
be going to Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry. This
is a great trip to finish off the 7th grade year at Delta Middle School. We will
take charter buses and leave from Delta High School at 6:00 am and arrive
back at Delta around 10:00 pm. Cost of the Field Trip is $75.00. This includes the cost of transportation, admission into the museum and the aquarium
and a trip t-shirt. The money will be due along with their permission slip the
week of March 7th - 11th. Please do not send money or permission slips
in early. More information will follow in a letter to the students. If you have any
questions please feel free to contact Mr. Banta.
8TH GRADE DEARBORN FIELD TRIP
The 8th grade field trip to Dearborn, Michigan, will be on Friday, May 6,
2016. This all-day trip will include visits to the Henry Ford Museum and adjacent
Greenfield Village (www.thehenryford.com). Mrs. Decker is the contact person for
this trip.

On Saturday March 12, 2016, FCCLA members, parents and adviser travelled to Hagerstown Jr/Sr
High School to pack meals being sent to local food pantries and to Guatemala as part of the End

There were over 700 people volunteering that day to pack over 162,000 meals. This program began five years ago and to date 593,676 meals have been packed and distributed to food pantries
and third world countries to help in the fight against hunger in our communities and worldwide.
FCCLA is proud to participate in this community service.
Below are pictures of our participants in the event.
8TH GRADE FACS EAGLES NEST
DENIM IN DISGUISE
The 8th grade FACS Eagles Nest class completed a recycling project using denim from jeans, a
dress, and shirts.
They searched for projects on Pinterest and used leftover lab supplies to make their creations.
Items made: pot holders, totebags, bracelets, flowers to decorate pillows, and pencil bags.
The students learned facts about recycling and were very resourceful and creative.

HOMEWORK HOTLINE
Let’s face it: Students may not always have parents or friends available to help with homework after
the last school bell rings. And here at the start of the year, it can be tough adjusting to new classes
and learning new concepts. Fortunately for Indiana students, bright, patient Homework Hotline tutors are available from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. (EDT), Sunday through Thursday, with no-charge math and
science help. The tutors are Rose-Hulman college students who are trained in tutoring and communicating clearly with younger students, and are equipped with resources to help students work
through challenging problems and develop better problem-solving skills. Students won’t get the answers from our tutors, but they will get expert help in breaking through tough homework problems.
They can call toll free at 1-877-ASK-ROSE, or send an e-mail by visiting the Web site at
www.AskRose.org.
TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY SCHOLARS
7th and 8th grade Indiana students whose families meet income eligibility guidelines can apply to become a 21stCentury Scholar. Applications must be received by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade
year. Students may apply online, or through a local school or nonprofit organization that has agreed
to submit online applications on behalf of eligible students. For more information, please go
to: www.scholars.in.gov , or talk to Mr. Brannock or Mrs. Lay.
*****NOTE: Application is now available online!
PLEASE SUPPORT DMS THROUGH BOX TOPS AND MORE
Did you know that our school earned $860.00 from Box Tops for Education this past year? Did you
know that through Campbell’s Soup labels we were able to purchase needed art supplies like watercolor trays & sidewalk chalk? PLEASE SUPPORT DMS THROUGH THESE EASY FUNDRAISERS!! Please ask family and friends who might not have school-age children to save Box Tops for
Education (worth 10 cents each), Campbell’s Soup labels (worth 1 to 5 points each), and Tyson
Chicken Project A+ symbols (a small blackboard on the red flaps of boxes and pull strip of bags –
worth 24 cents each). Send these items to school in baggies or envelopes. We have student volunteers who can sort and count the labels for shipping. All labels should be turned in to your child’s
first period class. Thank you so much for your support!
DMS PAPER RECYCLING PAPER
Our paper recycling program continues during school hours (8:40-3:30pm)Last year we had a very
successful response from our community, and we thank all of you who helped us achieve this. We
earned hundreds of dollars for the DelCom Foundation scholarship program. We want to thank
RockTenn in Eaton for providing us with the recycling container and offering us this opportunity.
Our DMS students are also vital to our recycling effort. We are recycling all types of paper and
cardboard. Please flatten cardboard boxes. We want to fill the recycling container as full as possible so that we can increase our earnings. If there is no wasted space, such as large empty boxes,
we can get much more in the container. Metal fasteners, including staples, need to be removed. Plastic laminated paper and plastic coverings also need to be removed. We do not
recycle any other materials. The funds from the paper recycling program benefit the scholarship program for Delta students. Thank you for supporting our recycling program. Contact the
school at 747-0869 with any questions.
