What’s new with the Update to SAP BW 7.50

Updated Software Lifecycle Maintenance Process following EhP Strategy

 Exception implementation for Service Releases (SR) for (NetWeaver) BW 7.40

These SPS are not applied via the SPAM procedure due, to fundamental changes in the SR Basis Support

Packages, e.g. new CDS views in SP08. Instead this update is scheduled via the software update manager

(SUM). Find additional information in the blog – Software Update Manager (SUM): introducing the tool for software maintenance .

 The creation of a stack.xml

via the Solution Manager and the usage of the ASU toolbox and/or the Update tasks lists are mandatory (including the Import of the Service Release).

SR1  SPS05 requires the new 7.41 UC Kernel

SR2

SPS08 requires the new 7.42 UC Kernel

 SPS12 requires the new 7.42 UC Kernel

What is the difference between SAP BW, Edition for SAP HANA and

SAP BW, powered by SAP HANA?

 Modeling in the Data Warehousing Workbench (SAPGUI) is replaced by modeling in the BW Modeling tools in Eclipse .

 The BW modeling tools have been adapted to the SAP HANA modeling environment. The BW objects recommended for use with

SAP HANA are modeled exclusively in the BW modeling tools. For the time being however, a small number of objects, such as the

DataSource, still have to be maintained in the Data Warehousing Workbench. Administrative tasks are still performed in the Data

Warehousing Workbench. More information: Tool Overview

 Certain object types are not supported any more. These are replaced by objects types that are especially primed for use on the SAP

HANA database. It is not possible to create objects in the Data Warehousing Workbench in the SAGGUI if their object types are not supported any more. More information: Unsupported Object Types in SAP BW, Edition for SAP HANA

The SAP Business Explorer (BEx) are not supported any more. Queries are now defined in SAP BW, Edition for SAP HANA in the

BW Modeling tools. For the visualization and analysis of data, you can use state of the art SAP BusinessObjects tools, such as SAP

BusinessObjects Analysis, Edition for Microsoft Office or SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio . These tools are especially designed with the needs of BW users in mind.

 With the enablement of the AddOn 1.0 the system is transferred into the “Compability Mode” to allow the transition to the new objects.

Once this temporary period is over the system can be switched from “Compatibility Mode” to “Operation in B4H Mode”.

If it turns out that the system cannot accommodate B4H mode at present, you can switch back to “Compatibility Mode” at any time.
