Ultra Compact Network – establish coverage in minutes Executive Summary www.nokia.com Meeting the demand Today, there is a growing demand for mission and business critical data applications in the public safety environment, enterprise and industrial sector. Conventionally, these critical services are implemented on top of commercial LTE networks to provide mobile broadband connections for data applications such as video, database access, messaging, sensor connectivity, location tracking and voice services. Existing mobile services are often either unavailable or cannot deliver the required broadband service level in many areas and an expensive, long latency satellite link to the core network is used. In particular, Mission Critical networks must offer much higher resilience and service availability than commercial mobile networks, making the public safety market the key driver for rapidly deployable solutions. Ultra Compact Network fulfils the market need for rapidly deployable solutions and pre-installed resilience solutions. The Ultra Compact Network is a highly portable LTE solution hardened for outdoor usage. Solution overview Nokia provides innovative rapidly deployable compact network solutions with different form factors for enterprises, emergency and disaster recovery situations and to establish coverage in remote areas. Our portable solutions with small form factor can establish connectivity in minutes. Nokia Ultra Compact Network is the smallest form factor of our compact, deployable LTE solutions: it can be carried in a backpack, be airborne (in a drone or weather balloon), or transported in a regular-size vehicle such as a police car. For a deployable network that requires broader coverage and more active users per cell, we offer Network in a Box. Our compact network deployable solutions can be used as a standalone LTE network, system on wheels solution and connected to the backhaul via cable, satellite or microwave. Nokia Ultra Compact Network is ideal for rapidly establishing connectivity for first response units in disasters such as forest fires and flood areas and in remote locations where coverage is missing or compromised. It is also available for business critical communication in industrial sites like mines and petrochemical plants. Solution components The solution components include: • Nokia Flexi Zone small cell hardware and software for eNodeB functionality • microCore for evolved packet core functions including IMS, HSS, PCRF • Router for establishing LTE network extended coverage where needed • Battery pack for enabling portable operation of the unit Page 2 www.nokia.com • Simplified Operation and Maintenance (O&M) tool for local deployment and network management • Professional services to meet the specific needs of customers Solution benefits • Our portable compact network solutions with small form factor can establish connectivity in minutes. • Dedicated/additional capacity in congested and remote areas • Potential new business opportunities by providing LTE networks to industries Summary Nokia Ultra Compact Network is a new, light-weight solution for mission critical and business critical communications, making it more efficient, portable and secure. The solution complements Nokia’s end-to-end portfolio with rapidly deployable systems to support first responder communications in disaster areas, as well as stand-alone wireless communications at industrial sites like mines, petrochemical plants and oil rigs.
