BLIND SPOT INFORMATION SYSTEM (BLIS) AND CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (CTA)—FALSE DTC B11D6:15 WITH INTERMITTENT FAULTS—BUILT ON OR BEFORE 5/21/2010. FORD: 2010 Fusion, Taurus TSB 10-20-6 MERCURY: 2010 Milan LINCOLN: 2010 MKZ, MKT This article supersedes TSB 10-15-4 to update the Service Labor Time Standards. a. If DTC B11D6:15 is present, clear the DTC and continue to Step 2. ISSUE b. If other DTCs are present, follow normal diagnosis procedures, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-04 for Side and Rear Vision. Do not continue with this procedure. Some 2010 Taurus vehicles built on or before 5/11/2010, 2010 MKT built on or before 05/05/2010 and 2010 Fusion, Milan and MKZ built on or before 5/21/2010, equipped with Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) may exhibit a BLIS fault. The error clears after a key cycle but can reappear at a later time and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B11D6:15 is present. This condition may be attributed to the software of the left hand (LH) or right hand (RH) side obstacle detection control modules (SOD), or a connector pin fit issue at the exterior rear view mirror glass sub-assembly LED connector. ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. NOTE IN SOME CASES, IF NO DTC’S ARE PRESENT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN CLEARED VIA AN EARLIER DIAGNOSTICS SELF TEST, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO FOLLOW NORMAL DIAGNOSIS IN WSM, SECTION 419-04. 2. Check vehicle application built dates and module software level using IDS scan tool. a. IDS Scan Tool Software Level Check Procedure. (1) Connect service tool to the vehicle via the data communication link (DCL). (2) Identify (ID) the vehicle. (3) Select Log Viewer - Technical View (Full Diagnostic) Tab. (Figure 1) SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTE DO NOT PERFORM A SELF TEST ON THE SOD MODULES PRIOR TO CHECKING FOR DTC(S). RUNNING A SELF TEST WILL CLEAR DTC(S) AND IT’S HISTORY IF THE CONDITION IS INTERMITTENT. 1. Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) scan tool, check for DTCs in the SOD module. FOLLOW THE COORDINATED REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE EXACTLY AS OUTLINED BY THE IDS SCAN TOOL. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE KEY CYCLE PROCEDURE WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE IDS PROMPTS WILL CAUSE THE COORDINATED REPROGRAMMING TO FAIL. Figure 1 - Article 10-20-6 (4) 3. Scroll down the page and locate both SODL_FILENAME = XXXX-XXXX-XX for left side SOD and SODR_FILENAME = XXXX-XXXX-XX for right side SOD modules software part number. 5. Remove appropriate LH and/or RH exterior rear view mirror glass subassemblies per WSM Section 501-09. 6. Inspect the BLIS exterior rear view mirrors glass subassembly connectors for spread or damaged terminals. (Figures 2-3): For Taurus and MKT vehicles built on or before 9/28/2009 and Fusion, Milan and MKZ vehicles built on or before 10/15/2009 check the SOD module software part number. For vehicles built after these date ranges proceed to step 5. a. If the module software contains part number 9E5T-14D368-AH or a later version, do not reprogram the module, the module already contains the latest software, proceed to Step 5. Figure 2 - Article 10-20-6 b. If the module software part numbers ends with a suffix of AA, AB, AC, AD, AE, AF, AG, reprogram the left and right SOD modules to the latest calibration using IDS release 63.12 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. Proceed to Step 4. 4. IDS Scan Tool SOD Programming Procedure. a. With IDS already installed. b. Select Module Programming. c. Select Module Reprogramming and select SOD-L. d. Follow the screens on IDS as outlined; this will reprogram both SOD left and right side modules. PAGE 2 Figure 3 - Article 10-20-6 a. If the terminals are damaged at the exterior rear view mirror glass subassembly, replace the exterior rear view mirror assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 501-09. b. If no damage is found, verify terminal pins are clean and tight. TSB 10-20-6 (Continued) (1) (2) Place a dab of Motorcraft Electrical Grease on the rear of the male terminal connector to create a weather tight seal. (Figures 2-3) (3) Reinstall appropriate exterior rear view mirrors glass subassemblies per WSM, Section 501-09. (4) 7. 8. Place a dab of Motorcraft Electrical Grease on the front and rear of the female terminal connectors. Proceed to Step 7. Use the exterior mirror control switch for proper control operation, cycle the mirrors up and down and left and right, stalling the mirror for 5 seconds at each position. Use the scan tool and check for any SOD faults. If no faults are present, return the vehicle to the customer; the vehicle is fixed. If B11D6:15 fault is still present, proceed to Step 8.
