Simulator Maintenance Technician
Associate in Applied Science, Diploma
The Program
The Simulator Maintenance Technician (Sim Tech)
program prepares students for troubleshooting,
repair and maintenance of electronic and mechanical
components of simulators used in pilot training,
entertainment and other applications. Students learn
to use specialized tools, test equipment, built-in
diagnostic equipment, and technical data to isolate
and locate faulty components or system malfunctions.
They also learn to remove, repair and replace faulty
electronic components. Some program requirements
include basic electronics, computer and simulator
coursework.
A career in Simulation Technology includes new
challenges daily: troubleshooting using test equipment
and diagnostics, preventive maintenance, hydraulic
and pneumatic systems and electronics and computer.
Your Future
Graduates are equipped to maintain the electronics
and mechanical components of simulators for aviation,
theme park rides, automobiles, trains, or space
equipment.
In-state jobs opportunities may be available at:
• Minot Air Force Base
• Grand Forks Air Force Base
• University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, John D.
Odegard Aerospace School
Other potential employers include major airlines,
airplane manufacturers, government contractors,
military installations, simulator manufacturers, Fed Ex,
UPS and more.
Courses are easily transferable. An articulation
agreement with the Industrial Technology Program
at UND assures seamless progression for students
wishing to continue their education.
Tips for Success
•
•
•
•
You are encouraged to participate in the Sim Tech
Club on campus. The club travels to simulator
sites, such as Pan Am Flight Academy.
To strengthen your job-seeking and interview
skills, you are encouraged to enroll in BADM
291-Career Seminar.
To strengthen your technology skills and build
your résumé, you are encouraged to enroll in a
cooperative education experience.
If you plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in
the future, you may want to complete the AA
(transfer) degree along with your AAS in Simulator
Maintenance Technician degree. Work closely with
your advisor to select appropriate classes.
