Directorate for Local Government and Communities Building Standards Division BUILDING STANDARDS 2013 TECHNICAL HANDBOOKS CORRIGENDA - OCTOBER 2014 1 Directorate for Local Government and Communities Building Standards Division Introduction The 2013 Technical Handbooks were published in June 2013 setting out the review changes to building regulations and guidance that came into force on the 1st October 2013. The handbooks are available, free of charge, in electronic format only. They can be viewed or downloaded from the BSD website at – www.scotland.gov.uk/bsd. As part of this new publication a few minor changes were made to the formatting of the books to comply with accessibility requirements. We have also included a content page and page numbering. As the handbooks are now in electronic format (web based) and fully searchable, margin references have been removed and whilst defined terms are still identified they are no longer in italics. This Corrigenda provides a list of corrections published in October 2014. 2 Directorate for Local Government and Communities Building Standards Division CONTENTS Page No 3 Introduction Domestic Non-Domestic Section 0 - General 4 Section 3 – Environment 4 Appendix A & B 4 Section 0 - General 5 Section 2 - Fire 5 Section 3 - Environment 5 3 BUILDING STANDARDS TECHNICAL HANDBOOKS 2013 DOMESTIC CLAUSE SUBJECT 0.1.7 Latest changes 0.1.7 General SECTION 0 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE Clause updated to reflect changes to the replacement of the Explosive Regulations 2005 0.3.2 Exempted buildings and services, fittings and equipment 0.3.2 Table 0.1 Table updated to reflect changes to the Explosive Exempted Regulations 2005 buildings and services, fittings and equipment 0.12.2 Building standards applicable to conversions 0.12.2 Schedule 6 (b) In point (b) insert 3.27 after 3.26 0.2 Citation, commencement and interpretation 0.2.2 Explanation of 2nd sentence ‘All of the terms defined above, Regulation 2 including those from the regulations, are in italics throughout the Handbooks.’ - has been deleted DOMESTIC CLAUSE SUBJECT 3.7 Wastewater drainage 3.7 Mandatory Standard SECTION 3 - ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE Change list points format in mandatory standard from numerical to alpha APPENDIX A DEFINITION AND EXPLANATION OF TERMS Definition and explanation of terms Definitions and explanation of terms Definitions and explanation of terms DOMESTIC and NON-DOMESTIC DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE 3rd sentence ‘All the terms in bold text below are in italics throughout the Technical Handbooks.’ removed Inverted commas added to terms defined in the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and Building Regulations “Statement of sustainability” added to defined terms 4 BUILDING STANDARDS TECHNICAL HANDBOOKS 2013 NON-DOMESTIC CLAUSE SUBJECT 0.1.7 Latest changes 0.1.7 General SECTION 0 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE Clause updated to reflect changes to the replacement of the Explosive Regulations 2005 0.3.2 Exempted buildings and services, fittings and equipment 0.3.2 Table 0.1 Table updated to reflect changes to the Explosive Exempted Regulations 2005 buildings and services, fittings and equipment 0.12.2 Building standards applicable to conversions 0.12.2 Schedule 6 (b) In point (b) insert 3.27 after 3.26 0.2 Citation, commencement and interpretation 0.2.2 Explanation of 2nd sentence ‘All of the terms defined above, Regulation 2 including those from the regulations, are in italics throughout the Handbooks.’ - has been deleted NON-DOMESTIC SECTION 2 – FIRE CLAUSE SUBJECT DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE 2.6 Spread to neighbouring buildings 2.6.4 External wall Text ‘ including any insulation core’ removed from cladding 2nd sentence NON-DOMESTIC CLAUSE SUBJECT 3.14 Ventilation 3.14.1 Ventilation generally SECTION 3 - ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE 3rd para text changed to ‘There is no need to ventilate: a. a store room used only for storage that requires a controlled temperature b. a room with a floor area of not more than 4m2.
