Secondary Teaching in Physics Educator Licensure Requirements ThePhysicalSciencelicensureprogramshavebeendesignedtoprepareexemplaryteachers.Theexperiences candidatesareprovidedwillenablethemtodemonstratethattheymeettheIllinoisandNationalScienceTeachers Associationstandards.Individualscompletingtheprogramsaresoughtafterasscienceteachers. ItisNOTnecessarytocompleteadegreeprogramatNIUatthesametimeascompletinglicenserequirementsbut youmusthaveabachelor'sdegreeandtheequivalentofadegreeinthesubjectareainwhichyouseeklicensure. Withoneortwopossibleexceptions(indicatedbelow)itisstronglysuggestedthatalltheprofessionaleducation requirementsarecompletedatNIU.Candidatessuccessfullycompletingtheteacherlicensureprogramin chemistrywillearnasecondarylicense(grades9-12)withaprimaryendorsementinphysics. AdmissiontotheSecondaryScienceEudcatorLicensureProgram PotentialcandidatesmustbeadmittedtoNIUtobeadmittedtotheLicensureprogram.Iftheyarenotadmitted totheprogram,theycannottaketherequiredcoursesintheprogramnorcantheyberecommendedbyNIUfor licensure.Potentialcandidateshavethefollowingchoicesofstudentclassification: Undergraduate-Choosethisoptionifyoudonothaveacollegedegree.Youshoulddeclaretobeaphysicsmajor butdonothavetoselectthephysicsteachingemphasis.Approximatelyhalfthestudentsbecominglicensedin physicsarenotinaneducationdegreeemphasis.
