| Facade | External Wall Insulation | External Wall Insulation For Existing Housing Sto Refurbishment Systems for Social Housing Robust and sustainable The UK Government’s target to reduce carbon emissions by 60% before 2050 is driving today’s construction policy. While new build housing projects are already covered by the Code for Sustainable Homes, this alone covers a fraction of the homes that will exist between now and 2050. Meeting the Government targets will chiefly depend on improving the insulation of existing homes. 35-40% of the heat in a home is lost through the walls. There are an estimated 7 million hard-to-treat homes with solid walls in the UK that require some form of solid wall insulation to reduce heat loss. Sto has developed three external wall insulation systems for the social housing refurbishment market. Before and after: Fishers Close for Broxbourne Housing Association StoTherm Classic Rapide A premium system for low to medium rise buildings. The entirely cement-free components provide extremely high crack resistance and the largest colour range. • Time-saving and compact foam adhesive Sto-Turbofix for high application speed. • High performance grey EPS tongue-and-groove insulation board. • Finish options: Synthetic silicone resin or acrylic renders. 1.Adhesive Sto-Turbofix 2.Insulation Grey EPS insulation board with supplementary dowels 3.Reinforcement coat Cement-free, through-coloured 4.Reinforcement mesh 5. Render Finish Acrylic or silicone resin render StoTherm Vario Robust A low to medium rise system with a modified mineralic render finish for high levels of weather protection and longer life than traditional renders. • Time-saving and compact foam adhesive Sto-Turbofix for high application speed. • High performance grey EPS insulation. • Finish options: A cementitious dry dash render finish or acrylic / silicone resin render. If acrylic / silicone resin render is used, a primer will be required. Resin Brick Slips or Resin Terracotta Tiles also available. 1.Adhesive Sto-Turbofix 2.Insulation Grey EPS insulation board with supplementary dowels 3.Reinforcement coat Cementitious 4.Reinforcement mesh 5. Render Finish Cementitious dry dash render; silicone / acrylic resin render StoTherm Mineral Protect A high rise system designed to meet strict fire protection requirements and the widest range of design options. • The mineral fibre insulation is non-combustible, for outstanding fire performance. • Finish options: A cementitious dry dash render finish or acrylic / silicone resin render. If acrylic / silicone resin render is used, a primer will be required. Resin Brick Slips or Resin Terracotta Tiles also available. 1.Adhesive 2.Insulation Mineral fibre insulation board with supplementary dowels 3.Reinforcement coat Cementitious 4.Reinforcement mesh 5. Primer 6. Render Finish Cementitious dry dash render; silicone / acrylic resin render Sto-Turbofix The time-saving, compact foam adhesive A single component, polyurethane-based foam adhesive for fixing EPS insulation. Sto-Turbofix has many advantages over traditional adhesives. Quick set Sto-Turbofix sets in about 10 minutes and cures in 2-3 hours, ready for overcoating. This is a significant time saving when compared to the 24-48 hours curing time for cement-based mortars. Rapid pistol application The pistol and hose allow for quick, clean and easy application of the adhesive. Goes much further Each 10.4 kg canister of Sto-Turbofix foam adhesive can fix 50-70 m2 of insulation, the equivalent of 9-12 sacks (around 270 kg) of cementbased adhesive mortar. • Easy to handle and store. • Significantly cuts the amount of packaging and subsequent waste. • Less volume cuts down on transportation requirements and ensuing carbon dioxide emissions. Ready-to-use – No water consumption Cement-based adhesive mortar has a heavy water consumption. This is avoided by using ready-to-use StoTurbofix. Thermal performance As a foam adhesive, Sto-Turbofix has a thermal performance close to the insulating properties of the EPS boards. Colour Visualisation Service from Sto For enhanced design in the built environment Architectural drawings or images of a building can be modified to show a selection of possible colour combinations that could be applied. The designs and colours selected can make a dramatic difference to the aesthetics of a building. This colour design service is particularly helpful for refurbishment projects such as social housing. Colour combinations and where they are applied can make a building appear longer, shorter, wider, as one building or as several. The appropriate selection of colours on a building facade can also have a positive effect on the well being of occupants. Speak to Sto about our StoDesign services for your next project. Render Finishes For every climate and design aspiration The choice of finish can depend on a number of variables: from planning authority policy, weather conditions to location of the building and the surrounding environment. Whichever finish is selected, it can significantly change and, in the case of refurbishment, enhance the aesthetic of the building. All Sto render finishes are sprayable as standard. The stippled K finish is available for acrylic, silicone and StoLotusan renders in a range of grain sizes and over 800 colours. Acrylic render finish Tintable to a wide range of colours from the StoColor System, acrylic finishes are vapour-permeable, highly colour stable and help to reduce facade maintenance. Dry Dash For a more traditional look, the Sto Dry Dash finish copes with almost any weather conditions. There is a choice of the following Sto-Spar Dash aggregates: Silicone render finish Provides high levels of vapour-permeability and water repellence. Ideal for areas exposed to harsh weather conditions. StoLotusan render finish A unique, self-cleaning facade render that uses patented LotusEffect® technology, allowing the coating to shed water with ease, washing away dirt every time it rains. Classic Harvest Beige Marble Yellow Polar Red & White Polar White Ashton Cream Nordic Polar Champagne Polar Black Before and after: Whitebeck Court Photography from Northwards Housing Sto Resin Brick Slips & Resin Terracotta Slips To achieve a classic streetscape Sto Resin Brick Slips are flexible, lightweight and made from acrylic render which simulates brickwork. They come in standard 215 x 65mm brick size or can be custom-designed to other sizes, including Resin Terracotta Slips. Used in conjunction with a Sto external wall insulation system, they allow for excellent thermal insulation without having to forego the appearance of a characteristic brick facade.
