Explanation of Results - GCE
GCE ADVANCED SUBSIDIARY
A pass in an Advanced Subsidiary subject (and Single award for applied subjects) is indicated by one of the five grades
A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d), E(e), of which Grade A(a) is the highest and Grade E(e) the lowest. Candidates whose level of
attainment is below the minimum judged by WJEC to be of sufficient standard to be recorded on a GCE certificate will
receive an UNCLASSIFIED (U(u)) result.
The AS Double Award qualification will be reported on a nine grade scale AA, AB, BB, BC, CC, CD, DD, DE, EE.
GCE ADVANCED LEVEL

A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d), E(e) of which Grade A*(a*) is the highest and grade E(e) the lowest. Candidates whose level of
attainment is below the minimum judged by WJEC to be of sufficient standard to be recorded on a GCE certificate will have
an UNCLASSIFIED U(u) result.
The Advanced level Double Award qualification will be reported on an eleven grade scale A*A*, A*A, AA, AB, BB, BC, CC,
CD, DD, DE, EE.
At Advanced level, grade A* will be awarded to candidates who have achieved grade A in the overall A Level qualification
and who have also achieved 90% of the maximum uniform marks on the aggregate of their A2 units.
GCE UNIT RESULT
All Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced Level GCE schemes use a nationally agreed uniform mark scale (UMS) to report the
result of each unit and subject awards. The maximum uniform mark for a subject depends upon the total number of units
contributing to the qualification and the maximum uniform mark for a unit depends upon the importance (weighting) of the
unit within the qualification.
There are a number of separate UMS, each with a different maximum unit mark. The maximum uniform mark for each unit
is given overleaf. The minimum uniform mark required for each grade of a Unit Result for each UMS are:

not to issue a result for any other reason.The subject will not appear on a certificate.
