Description
Sikasil® RTV Gasket is a premium,
one-component, room temperature
vulcanising (RTV) silicone rubber
designed for flexible gasketing and
sealing applications.
Sikasil® RTV Gasket forms a tough
but flexible seal of all shapes and
sizes and fills any surface voids.
The cured product can withstand
vibration, weathering, temperature
extremes, water, oil and grease
without hardening, shrinking or
cracking.

Product Benefits
- Superior extreme temperature
resistance (-50 - 250°C)
- Excellent vibration, UV and
weathering resistance
- Good gap-filling properties
- Highly versatile
- Easy to apply
- Aquarium safe (translucent only)
Areas of Application
Sikasil® RTV Gasket is designed to
replace conventional cut gaskets
(rubber, paper, cork and felt) used
for typical flanges and mechanical
assemblies (oil pans, rocker
covers, water pumps, gear boxes,
etc) in cars, trucks, boats, tractors,
lawn mowers and related vehicles
and equipment.
It can also be used for gasketing
and sealing in refrigerators,
dishwashers, air conditioning units,
oven doors and related appliances,
especially where high temperature
resistance is required.
This product is suitable for
professional experienced users
only. Tests with actual substrates
and conditions have to be
performed to ensure adhesion and
material compatibility.

Cure Mechanism
®
Sikasil RTV Gasket cures by
reaction
with
atmospheric
moisture. The reaction thus starts
at the surface and proceeds to the
core of the joint. The curing speed
depends on the relative humidity
and the temperature. At low
temperatures the water content of
the air is lower and the curing
reaction proceeds more slowly.
Removal
Uncured, excess Sikasil® RTV
Gasket may be removed with
®
Sika Remover-208 or another
suitable solvent. Once cured, the
excess sealant can be trimmed
away from the edges with a knife.
Hands and exposed skin should be
®
washed immediately using Sika
Handclean towels or a suitable
industrial hand cleaner and water.
Do not use solvents!
Application Limits
®
Sikasil
RTV Gasket is not
recommended
for
use
in
applications where it will be
permanently
exposed
to
temperatures exceeding 250°C or
in contact with fuels (e.g. engine
head or exhaust manifold gaskets).
The above information is offered
for general guidance only. Advice
on specific applications will be
given on request.
Overpainting
Sikasil® RTV Gasket cannot be
overpainted.

Application
Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle to the
desired bead size (3 mm is
suitable for most applications) then
apply a continuous and even bead
to one surface, both along the
perimeter and around all bolt
holes.
Assemble parts before the sealant
skins over and tighten bolts to
required torque, where necessary
leaving sufficient clearance for
mechanical parts (bolts may be
fully tightened once sealant has
finished curing).
