TEMPORARY BARRICADES
A.
Provide barriers and enclosures as needed to protect building facilities and adjacent
properties from damage from construction operations.
B.
Public Rights-Of-Way and Public Access:
1.
Pedestrian Walkways:
a.
Provide a walkway for pedestrian travel in front of Site unless
authorities having jurisdiction authorize sidewalk to be fenced or closed.
b.
Provide walkways of sufficient width to accommodate pedestrian traffic,
but in no case less than 4 feet in width.
c.
Provide walkways provided with a durable walking surface.
d.
Provide walkways accessible in compliance with applicable local codes
and ordinances and designed to support imposed loads; in no case shall
a design live load be less than 150 psf.
2.
Directional Barricades:
a.
Protect pedestrian traffic by a directional barricade where walkway
extends into street.
b.
Provide a directional barricade of sufficient size and construction to
direct vehicular traffic away from pedestrian path.
C.
Adjacent to Excavations:
1.
Do not permit trenches to remain open without adequate board coverings or
fencing.
2.
Enclose excavations on-site located 5 feet or less from street lot line with a barrier
not less than 6 feet high. Where located more than 5 feet from street lot line, erect
a barrier (when required by authorities having jurisdiction). Provide barriers of
adequate strength to resist wind pressure as specified in building code.
D.
Provide temporary weather-tight closures of openings in exterior surfaces to provide
acceptable working conditions, protection for materials, and to allow for temporary
heating.
E.
Provide enclosures around piles of separated materials pursuant to Waste Management
Plan; refer to Section 01 7419. Locate enclosures out of way of construction traffic.
Provide adequate space for pick-up and delivery and convenience to subcontractors.

TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION FENCING
A.
Building area shall be enclosed inside a temporary, chain link construction fence.
Provide temporary enclosures to prevent entry of unauthorized persons to construction
areas.
1.
Area contained within construction fencing shall be large enough to allow for
construction activities, movement of materials, and storage of materials and
equipment as needed.
2.
Provide gates as needed for access and movement of materials, equipment,
machinery, and personnel.
B.
Provide 11 gauge (0.120”), galvanized 2”, chain link fabric fencing 7’-0” high with
galvanized steel pipe posts, 2.375” OD for line posts and 2.875” OD for corner posts
unless otherwise indicated. Fencing shall comply with recommendations of Chain Link
Manufacturers Institute for Light Industrial usage.
SECURITY MEASURES
A.
Provide a security program and facilities to Protect Work from unauthorized entry,
vandalism, and theft.
B.
Employ such services or measures as needed to properly protect and safeguard Work.
Provide protection for materials, tools, and equipment employed on Project, including
workmen’s tools.
C.
Owner shall not be held to have incurred any liability for loss of, and damage to,
materials, tools, and equipment of Contractor, or of those employed by Contractor by
contract or otherwise. Owner shall not in any way be liable or responsible for damage or
loss to Work due to trespass or theft.
PROTECTION OF ADJACENT PROPERTY
A.
Provide barriers and enclosures as needed to protect adjoining public and private
property from damage during construction.
1.
Provide protection for footings, foundations, party walls, chimneys, skylights
and roofs.
B.
Provide written notice to owners of adjoining buildings advising them that an excavation
is to be made and that adjoining buildings shall be protected. Deliver notification less
than 14 days prior to scheduled starting date of excavation.
