Introduction
This document describes how you can improve usability in RES Workspace Manager and RES Automation
Manager by configuring integration with RES IT Store.
In RES Workspace Manager 2014 and RES Automation Manager 2014, it is possible for administrators to
create new RES IT Store services directly from the RES Workspace Manager and RES Automation
Manager Consoles.
RES Workspace Manager reduces the complexity of managing how IT services are made available to
users across all Microsoft Windows environments and multiple delivery platforms and devices, while
reducing costs. It offers an improved desktop experience to users and, through context awareness,
optimizes the way they consume IT services.
RES Automation Manager centrally manages the complex daily tasks faced by IT with a very simple
interface, targeting and provisioning a variety of resources for the data center and dynamic desktop
environments.
The key benefits of the integration are:


Offer self-servicing capabilities in the RES Workspace Manager Workspace Composer to gain
access to applications, printers and settings.
Publish Run Books as a service in the RES IT Store Web Portal for delegation and self-servicing.
This document assumes that you have basic knowledge of RES IT Store 2014, RES Workspace Manager
and RES Automation Manager 2014.

Service Templates
For the first step of the integration, create at least two templates, one for RES Workspace Manager and
one for RES Automation Manager.
A service template is a preconfigured service that makes it possible in RES Workspace Manager and RES
Automation Manager to create new RES IT Store services directly from the RES Workspace Manager
Console and RES Automation Manager Consoles, based upon these templates. This allows for further
integration of RES Software products and improves usability when creating and managing services.
Please note that you can only convert a service to a template if it is currently unused. That means:



The service has no subscribers.
The service is not already used in a Service Publication.
The service is not referenced by other services (i.e. not as a qualification restriction or dependency
of other services or in their service attributes.
Once services are converted to a template, they can be added to a Service Publication, at Setup > Service
Publications. Templates can only be used in Service Publications; they are no longer available as a
service in the RES IT Store Web Portal, and can no longer be referenced by other services.

8
Configuration
1. In the RES IT Store Console, click the Services section.
2. Open the service that you want to convert to an RES Workspace Manager template, or create a
new service.
3. On the Properties tab of the Service window, select the option Use as template.
 If the service is currently unused, the options Show in publications, Show in IT Store, Show
in IT Service Panels and Enable transactions will be grayed out and no longer apply.
 If the service is currently in use, you will be prompted to clone the service first and create a
template from the clone.
4. Make any changes to the configuration of the template.
5. Save the changes by clicking OK.
6. Repeat the steps to convert a service to an RES Automation Manager template.
Templates are shown in the Service section with a different icon than services and in the format "<service
name> [TEMPLATE]". Using this search criteria in the Instant Search bar makes it easier to retrieve
service templates.
Best practice
When configuring a service template for RES Automation Manager, make sure the first action is an
Approve action, to build in an extra security for new services. For example, if you use this template to
create a service that invokes a Run Book to delete users in your Active Directory, it provides an option to
cancel the service before the Run Book is executed.

Service Publications
A new RES IT Store environment contains two default Service Publications: RES Workspace Manager and
RES Automation Manager.
RES Workspace Manager
This publication allows you to integrate RES IT Store into RES Workspace Manager and use services in
Access Control rules for applications and objects like printers and settings.
It contains a default template Workspace Template. This template can be used to create new services and
use them in Access Control rules for applications, printers and settings.
RES Automation Manager
This publication allows you to integrate RES IT Store into RES Automation Manager and use services to
invoke Run Books. It contains a default template Run Book Template. This template can be used to
publish Run Books as a service in the RES IT Store Web Portal for delegation and self-servicing.
Configuration
1. In the RES IT Store Console, click Setup > Service Publications. This opens the Service
Publications window.
2. Select the publication RES Workspace Manager and click Edit. This opens the Publication
“RES Workspace Manager” window.
3. On the Properties tab, optionally specify a Password and a People Identifier. Please note
that these must also be specified in RES Workspace Manager (e.g. Windows user
account).

4. On the Published Templates tab, click Add to make service templates available for use in
RES Workspace Manager. When adding templates to a publication, you can only select
templates in which the options Use as template and Show in publications are selected.
You can find these options on the service's Properties tab.
5. Repeat the steps to add services to the publication RES Automation Manager.
