Mines Safety Bulletin 144 Uncontrolled movement on mine roads involving skidding and sliding Skidding and sliding on mine roads A recent increase in incidents involving uncontrolled vehicle movement on open-cut coal mine roads is raising serious concerns. Some of the increase in incidents may be due to improved reporting, however the concern is, an increased potential of an accident with the large number of both light and heavy vehicle interactions on mine roads. The Mines Inspectorate has released a number of safety alerts and bulletins over the last five years on the risks of uncontrolled movements. As there has been considerable turnover of senior positions in supervision and mine planning, the following table aims to support mine site review of the adequacy of controls.
