OVERVIEW
The East Anglia Branch of ACAMH invite you to attend this conference on the subject of Attachment.
In this conference we will aim to:
• understand attachment disorders and difficulties and how these impact upon a child’s development, inner world
and behaviour
• consider how to identify when a child’s behaviour is due to an attachment disorder as opposed to other
developmental disorders such as ASD, based on recent research
• Learn the principles around managing the behaviour of children with attachment difficulties and some techniques
for working with families and in clinical and educational settings
This conference will be invaluable for anyone who would like to understand the nature of attachment problems, the
resulting major public health implications for individual health and society, and importantly, how to play a vital role in

Dr Miriam Silver
Dr Kim S Golding, Consultant Clinical
Psychologist, Worcester Health and Care Trust,
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
Institute. Kim has a longstanding interest in
parenting, and collaborating with parents or
carers to develop their parenting skills tailored
to the particular needs of the children they are
caring for. She has a special interest in supporting
foster carers and adoptive parents. DDP is based
on working with children in a playful, accepting,
curious and empathic way.
Dr Miriam Silver, Consultant Clinical
Psychologist (Children and Parenting) LifePsychol
Ltd, Milton Keynes. Dr Silver’s passion is in
working to support parents in building secure
attachments with their children in all kinds of
different family configurations through research,
training and therapy.

Dr Helen Minnis, Senior Lecturer in Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Glasgow. Her
research focus has been on Reactive Attachment
Disorder: clinical aspects, assessment tools and
behavioural genetics. She is now conducting
intervention research for maltreated children
including a randomised controlled trial of an
infant mental health service for young children in
foster care and research into the differentiation
between autism and reactive attachment disorder.

Professor David Howe is Emeritus Professor
in the School of Social Work and Psychology
at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. He
has research and writing interests in emotional
development, empathy, developmental
attachment theory, and child abuse and neglect.
