Weighting 1 Weighting Weighting determines how much a category of assignment or individual assignment contributes toward the final grade. Different weighting schemes can produce significantly different grades. To adjust weighting, first select your course. Click the Gradebook tab. Click Manage, then Categories and Weighting. You can choose weighting at the course level or the level of a category, such as Homework or Quizzes. Choose an overall weighting scheme for all categories in a course from the Category Weighting menu. Equally means that the score for each category that contains assignments contributes equally toward the course grade. By Points means that the number of points in all assignments in a category determines how much each category counts toward the course grade. A category with items totaling 400 points in all assignments counts twice as much as a category totaling 200. Custom lets you edit the Weighting Factor for each category. For example, you might want quiz scores to account for 60% of the course grade, with homework assignments and labs each worth 20%. Choose an assignment weighting scheme for individual assignments within a category from the Assignment Weighting menu opposite the category name. If you choose Equally, grades in each assignment or activity contribute equally toward the category grade. If you choose By Points, the number of points in each assignment determines their weight. An assignment worth 20 points counts twice as much as an assignment worth 10. Custom lets you edit the Weighting Factor for each assignment or offline activity individually. Make changes until you get the combination of category and assignment weighting you want. Click Save.
