Wood Screws General Information

When using screws to join wood, it is necessary to bore pilot holes, especially in hardwoods. Pilot
holes make it easier to drive the screws and reduce the chance of damaging either the screws or the
wood.
Bore the holes large enough so that they freely accommodate the screw shank in the first piece of
wood. In the second piece of wood bore the holes slightly smaller than the thread diameters to a depth
of half the length of the threaded portion. The screw length should be at least 1/8" less than the combined measurement of the joined material.
