A Message from Mr. H.
Happy October everyone! We sure ended September in an interesting way with an evacuation/early dismissal last Friday.
Thank you to the teachers and staff members of Moreau Hall, and in fact the entire district, for helping to keep our students safe and calm during the process. Our crisis team here at school went into action immediately, and with the help of Central
Administration we had our entire school evacuated and heading to the high school in less than thirty minutes. Dismissal to parents went so smoothly thanks to you! It was truly a team effort. I am proud of the way our team acted, and I feel extremely fortunate to work in a district with so many helpers. The safety and security of our children will continue to be our number one priority. As you have witnessed, it is a responsibility we take very seriously. I thank you for your support!
If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to read the new district newsletter, 50 Oliver Newsletter Issue 1 (which can be found on the website) , especially Dr. Keough’s piece on Social Media and Civility. As a school, and district, we have to keep in mind the impact of what we post to social media. The old proverb, THINK before you speak, always comes in handy. T =
Is it true? H = Is it helpful? I = Is it inspiring? N = Is it necessary? K = Is it kind? Our core values of Positive Attitude, Respect, and Excellence should also guide us in our interactions with each other as a school family. As always, I encourage you to keep the lines of communication open and honest with your child’s teacher. And remember, I am always here to help with whatever you may need!

We will be having our annual
Halloween Parade on Friday,
Oct. 30 th ! There will be more information coming home as the date approaches. Please remember to trick-or-treat safely!
PAC Fall Fundraiser
Please review the fundraising envelope that came home with the students this week. This is one of our biggest fundraisers. Enclosed you will find the “Soul Warming” soup catalog, order form, and envelope. You can even donate soup to Easton Food Pantry!
Please have all orders/direct donations in by Oct. 9 th .
VOLUNTEERS!
Please remember that volunteers for all school events need an up to date CORI on file as well as a signed Volunteer
Guidelines Form. Both forms can be obtained in the office at
Moreau Hall. See Mrs.

School Spirit Days!
Every Friday is “School Spirit Day” at Moreau Hall. Teachers, staff, students and families are encouraged to show their “hawk pride” by wearing any and all t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc that have a Moreau Hall name/logo on them…new or old, it doesn’t matter to us! You can also show your pride by dressing in our school colors – navy blue and white! Let’s have fun and show some pride!
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM… and Art Work!
Please join us on Friday, Oct. 23 rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm for our annual
Ice Cream Social and Art Exhibit!
Enjoy some delicious ice cream and look at some incredible art work!
This is a FREE event! Raffle tickets will be on sale!
Remember to bring your BOX TOPS for Education to exchange for raffle tickets!
There will be more info coming home within the next couple of weeks!
The raffle will close at 7:30 pm to allow time to announce all of the winners .
Moreau Hall is RECYCLING and EARNING!
Do you have old/used cell phones, MP3 players and empty ink cartridges you need to get rid of?
Drop them in our collection box so we can recycle them for you and earn money for our school.

Cold and Flu Season
We always welcome donations of boxes of tissues this time of year. Just send them in with your student or drop them off with Mrs. Hassan, our school nurse.
School Council
The first meeting of the M.H. School
Council will be on Tuesday, Oct. 13 th at 7:45 am in our conference room.
Activity Fee
Each year we ask families to pay an activity fee, which goes to support various activities in town. For
Moreau Hall, the biggest activity that is supported through this fee is our connection to Sheep Pasture. In addition to our students going to Sheep Pasture in the spring, the teachers from this great program visit
Moreau Hall during the winter to work with each classroom. It is a fantastic learning experience for our students.
If you have not sent in your annual activity fee of $17.50 for Kindergarten or $35.00 for grade 1 & 2 students, please do so as soon as possible. Checks can be made payable to Town of Easton.
M.H. Students Lend a Helping Hand to the Easton Food Pantry
Each grade level at Moreau Hall has developed a community service project to provide an opportunity for our students to have a lasting impact on improving the community in which they live. Moreau Hall Kindergarten classes will be coordinating ALL SCHOOL food drives this year to benefit Easton Food Pantry. The first Food Drive will be during the month of October. Items can be brought in all month long! We will set a day at the end of each month to collect and deliver the items.
Here are some recommended items:
Canned pasta, boxed pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned soup, canned vegetables, canned tuna, and canned baked beans

Everyday Math Parent/Guardian Night
 Do you struggle with helping your children with math homework?
 Do you have questions about these “new methods?”
If you answered yes to either of these questions then this night is for you!
Join us on Wednesday, October 14 th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm to learn more about the Everyday
Math Program from the experts – the teachers! This is a night for parents/guardians only.
Kindergarteners to Visit Langwater Farm
On Thursday, Oct. 22 nd our Kindergarten classes will be participating in a Pumpkin Harvesting Program at
Langwater Farm in Easton. Our students (and parents) always have so much fun and learn so many amazing things. Please have your permission slip in by Friday, Oct. 16 th ! And remember, you must have a CORI form on file in order to chaperone!

Curriculum Based Measurements
Last week the children in kindergarten through grade 2 across the district took a battery of assessments. They were predominantly administered to each child on a one to one basis. These assessments are know as Curriculum Based
Measurements where the students are given brief, timed tasks, using materials that are tied to the curriculum in that child’s grade. The child's performance on a CBM probe (aka, assessment) are scored for speed, or fluency, and for accuracy of the performance. All of the educators in K-2 have been trained to administer and score these probes.
Educational researchers have developed these simple, statistically reliable, scientifically based principles and practices to assess and measure student skills in the subject area of reading. These tests are nationally normed performance tasks but, as we live in Massachusetts the highest performing state in the country, we reference the Massachusetts state norms instead. These CBM assessments will be given to the students once in the fall, winter and spring.
Once the probes are scored and entered into the database a teacher can interpret the data in relation to student peers across Massachusetts. Pinpointing where each child stands helps differentiate instruction and inform the teacher of the instructional approach that will lead to the greatest success in learning to read.
Based on the child’s grade there are tasks in these areas: o Phonological Awareness o Alphabetic Principle/Phonics o Reading Fluency o Reading Comprehension
