Issue: June | 2016 Congratulations to the Class of 2016 On June 12, 2016, the Emmaus High School Class of 2016 walked across the stage at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena to receive their diplomas. This graduation ceremony is the highlight of the EHS academic year. It is a time for staff, parents, and families to join the graduates in celebrating their successful completion of high school. Read more Lincoln Elementary Kindergarten Students Learn About Product Management Every year, Karen Gennaro’s Lincoln Elementary School full day kindergarten class learns about product management by creating a product, marketing it, and selling it to their elementary school consumers. The money students earn each year is always donated to a local charity. Read more Shoemaker Art Club Skypes Ghostbusters Director, Paul Feig When you want an amazing experience for your elementary school students, who ya’ gonna call? Mr. Shreck! This year’s art club experience took off on a fantastic journey the students will never forget. The Shoemaker Art Club was able to squeeze in one final mural painting at the Carmike Theater on Sunday, May 29th from 9:30am­1:30pm. Students painted a "Summer Movie Mash­Up" of Sony's Ghostbusters and Pixar's Finding Dory! Mr. Shreck came up with the Ghostbusters theme after he and his wife, Mrs. Shreck, a second grade teacher at Shoemaker, acted as extras this fall on the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. Read more Shoemaker Elementary Students Skype with Author, Lauren Tarshis Miss Baranovich’s 4th grade Shoemaker Elementary students have been reading Storyworks magazine all year. One of her students' favorite authors, Lauren Tarshis, is a writer for the magazine. Students also began reading her "I Survived" books, one after one. The class sent her an email a while back requesting to have a Skype meeting towards the end of the school year. Read more WES 4th Grade Students Participate in Daily STEAM Sessions Wescosville Elementary School’s 4th grade students participated in daily STEAM sessions during the month of June. Students worked collaboratively to practice STEAM skills and 4th grade science/technology standards through STEAM activities such as boat building, K’Nex Building Challenge, Lego Robotics, Matchbox Challenge, Code.org, and marble ramp building. Congratulations to student, Alexa Ryan, who was selected as the first place winner for her essay by the Emmaus Community Park Flag Day Program Committee Judges. Read more WES Pilots Flexible Seating in Fourth Grade Classroom Wescosville would like to celebrate the success of their recent SWPBS award given to them by the state by highlighting a special initiative started this year. Over the past year school year, Kendy Schiffert, a fourth grade teacher at Wescosville Elementary School, has piloted flexible seating in her 4th grade classroom. Flexible seating gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and helps them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
