Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to: identify characteristics of the unit circle. graphically and verbally describe trigonometric functions, their inverses, and their relationships to one another. determine angle measures and side lengths for any triangle. verify and use appropriate trigonometric identities. solve trigonometric equations and application problems. illustrate knowledge of vector properties, parametric equations, trigonometric form of complex numbers and polar equations. There are 2 exams and a final, comprehensive exam. Because of the numerous exam times and locations, no make-up exams will be given. The two exams and the final exam will be proctored, paper and pencil exams. These examinations will be given according to the Virtual Campus Testing Schedule. The exams are worth 175 points each and the final exam is worth 250 points. Quizzes: There will be five quizzes @ 40 points each for a total of 200 possible points. There will be one extra quiz at the end of the course that may be used as either a make-up for a missed quiz, or as extra credit points. Therefore there will be no make-up for missed quizzes. Any missed quiz will receive a grade of zero (0). Quizzes are completed online with a time limit and may only be entered once. Once begun, the quiz must be completed. It is the student’s responsibility to be sure that all plug-ins are working properly before beginning the quiz. Graded Online Homework: There will be 10 graded online assignments @ 10 points each for a total of 100 points. There is an extra homework assignment at the end of the course that may be used either for make-up or extra credit. Therefore there will be no makeup for missed online homework. Do not dismiss these as unimportant. Each point counts as much as a point on an exam. Each homework may be entered as many times as you wish until you get a perfect score. Graded Unit Assignments: There will be five unit assignments @ 25 points each for a total of 125 points. These are paper/pencil assignments (not online). The assignments must be submitted electronically (as WORD documents or pdf files) through the Assignment Drop-Box (in D2L), and have a specific due date. NO assignment will be accepted late. Please be sure to submit these assignments as a multipage pdf. Please see the directions for submitting these assignments on the D2L course homepage. Homework: The general homework assignment is all the odd problems in the sections indicated as “Reading” in the daily outline below. Use the appropriate Discussion Board topic to ask/answer questions on the homework attempted. This homework and discussion board postings are not graded, but you are expected to participate. There will be no curving of final grades. Other Information 1. No retests will be given to any students and test scores will not be curved nor dropped from the calculation of the course grade. Once the test is taken, that is the grade that will be counted. 2. If a student is found cheating in a test, he/she will receive a grade of zero for the test. If cheating is repeated, he/she will receive a grade of F for the course and the behavior will be reported to the college for disciplinary action. 3. In order to succeed in this course, students are expected to do the assigned homework and quizzes, and log on to the course at least three (3) times per week. Discussion Board participation, while not graded, is expected from all students. 4. During normal school days, all questions/concerns sent electronically will be addressed within 48 hours period. It may take longer during weekends and/or holidays. 5. Online Office hours will be posted at the start of the semester. 6. An Incomplete (I) grade is only given for extreme circumstances and solely at the discretion of the instructor. The student must have participated past the second exam and be missing at most one quiz and the final exam in order to be considered for an I grade. 7. Quizzes and graded homework will be online within My Math Lab. Online homework (20 points each) can be entered as many times as you wish and you can change answers as many times as needed up until the final submission date. The four offline homework for Chapters 2 & 3, 4, 5 and 7 must be submitted electronically through D2L dropbox as a Word document of a PDF. Online Quizzes can only be entered once and are timed by the computer. 8. Tests 1 & 2 will be proctored, on campus, and given according to the Virtual Campus Testing Schedule for Tests 1 and 2. The Final Exam will be an on campus , proctored, paper and pencil test given according to the Virtual Campus Testing schedule. Use the links provided on the left of the D2L screen for complete testing information for each campus. Please note that paper exams are available only on the following days: Test 1: June 15 & 16 Test 2: July 13 & 14 Test 3: August 10 & 11 (Final Exam) The dates for the quizzes, tests and graded assignments are given in the table. The online homework and quizzes are due by midnight of the last day of availability. COURSE POLICIES Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty in any form will result in failure in the assignment and may also result in dismissal from this course. Actions will be reported to the college. Make-up Test policy: Due to the numerous times, no make up exam will be allowed. No make-ups for online quizzes or homework will be granted, due to the make-up opportunity at the end of the semester. Add/Drop Policy: 1. Students who drop the course by June 4th will receive no grade. 2. Students who have registered for the course, have signed onto the software, but do not participate in any assigned work and required graded activities by June 6th will be dropped from the class as never attended. The required work includes the orientation assignment, Homework #1 and Quiz #1. 3. Students who drop a course on or before the midpoint of the semester and have tried and participated in the course activities will receive a grade of W. 4. Students who drop a course after the midpoint of the semester and on or before the last day of class, will receive a grade of W if his/her grade is at least 60%; otherwise, a grade of F will be posted. 5. After the last day of class, withdrawal forms will not be processed and the student will be given the grade earned. This includes zeros for work not submitted. 6. The instructor reserves the right to drop any student for non-attendance who does not submit three consecutive graded works (quiz, homework or test) . The student will receive zeros for work not submitted. The student will receive the grade earned (W or F) at the time of the drop. This should give you a good idea of how you should be pacing yourself through the course. The suggested homework covers all the required concepts. The answers to the odd problems are in the back of your book so that you can check your own work.
