Steven C. Hopkins, ChFC Steve’s clients describe him as a good listener with the unique ability to connect personally, understand, and act as a trusted confidante; even as a family member. He puts people at ease and brings a good sense of humor to an area of clients’ lives that can be serious and stressful. “I always approach an engagement with the assumption that this is a lifelong relationship. My clients become part of my extended family. I always ask myself if I would implement a recommended strategy for my mom, a sibling, or for myself.” “My greatest thrill is creating an insight-based experience for a client that results in a true epiphany. I believe that when clients gain insights, they change; they never think the same way again!” Steve’s “growing up” experiences were very diverse. They include farms and ranches in the Midwest and Northwest, as well as city life. Being one of eight children and having an entrepreneurial father provided plenty of exposure to the value of hard work and ideas about business and finances. “I have since learned the importance of balance in life. When I’m at work, I work hard, I work smart, and I work efficiently. When I leave work I truly unplug and break away from it so I can relax, rejuvenate and truly be with my family, my wife, or my friends. I similarly make focused time to work in the community through Rotary International, my church, and my children’s school activities.” After high school, Steve entered the United States Navy’s Advanced Electronics Field and served from 1975 to 1981. The Navy, college, and early working career provided extensive opportunity to travel and live in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean islands, and South America. Steve attended university in South America with an emphasis in Spanish language and worked abroad in England as a broker with Lloyd’s of London. Over the past 21 years he has gained extensive experience with a “Fortune 50” financial firm along with equally extensive experience in the small business, “boutique” environment. Credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance/Law from Portland State University, as well as the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation through The American College, awarded upon completion of eight to ten upper division finance courses.
