It has been manufactured to meet the stringent standards of the American Society For Testing and Materials (A.S.T.M. F1346). The cover comes with a latching device to prevent unwanted entry by a small child. The reason for the A.S.T.M. F1346 safety standard is to make certain that the cover can prevent drowning, particularly of small children who may try to climb in and around the cover. When installed outdoors, provision is also made to remove rainwater that may accumulate on the surface of the cover that could also be a drowning hazard. Drowning has become the second leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of five in the United States. In five states, drowning in swimming pools and spas is the leading cause of death for children under the age of five. The cover meets the A.S.T.M. F1346 standards only if the installer uses all the materials provided by the manufacturer in the manner prescribed. Particular attention must be paid in following the manufacturer's instructions for the installation of the latching device to prevent unwanted entry by a small child. In addition, all outside installations must employ a cover pump to automatically remove rainwater from the surface of the cover. Pools of rainwater that may accumulate on top of the cover are also a drowning hazard that must be addressed in order to meet the A.S.T.M. criteria. Additional Considerations Cover Mounting BracketsThese two optional steel brackets and bracing angles are used to mount the retractable security cover at either end of the pool so that the fabric leaves the roller and enters the track at a very shallow angle (see diagram on page 2). In this configuration, the resistance is minimized, making the handle very easy to turn. Also, the cover roller is low and unobtrusive. The cover rolls with the dry side out to minimize water on the floor. This cover mounting method is inappropriate for fully in-ground installations, unless used in conjunction with a "Power Wheel". Please call our Customer Service Department to discuss this option. The brackets and angles bolt easily to the corners of the pool using the same holes and bolts that are used to assemble the pool panels (see drawing on page 5). Be sure to leave at least 24" from the inside of the pool wall to the finished wall where the roller handle is turned. Only 18" is required for the roller and fabric. Endless Pools Inc. There are certain situations that the optional cover mounting brackets cannot be used: • With any skirting provided by Endless Pools • At the front of the pool when the Poolside Water Quality System and Optional Synthetic Coping has been selected • If the pool is to be installed fully in-ground (Unless a Power Wheel has been chosen. Call Customer Service for details 800-910-2714) If you have a Manual Control Swim Current and you plan to mount the roller at the front, please call the Customer Service Department for additional lengths of track that allow the leading edge to clear the controls. Bonding Splice* D40036-1011 Retractable Security Cover Supplemental Guide Page 5 of 10 1) Place two pieces of the aluminum track end to end on each long side of the pool. Be sure that the open side of the track is facing inward towards the pool. Join the two pieces of track together with the track splice pins provided, forming one 14’-8” track. Refer to Figure 1 on page 8. Align the two 14’-8” tracks on opposite sides of pool so that they run parallel to each other and create a distance of approximately 1" wider than the inside dimension of the pool’s width. Note: Track space of more than 2" wider than the inside dimension of the pool’s width will void the security aspect and make operation considerably harder. The track should extend 5” beyond the end of the pool where the roller will be installed and should extend 3” beyond the end opposite the roller. When a longer pool has been ordered, Endless Pools has provided shorter extension tracks. These shorter tracks are to be placed at the end opposite the roller mechanism. For wood coping, simply screw into the wood with the screws provided. If desired, mark holes and pre-drill before screws are fastened. For tile coping, use a drill with 1/4” masonry drill bit to drill 11/2” deep holes, insert plastic anchor plugs, and attach with the screws provided. Secure track with provided 1-1/4" track screws Open slot in track must be facing pool. Connect 2 adjacent tracks with provided splice pins as shown. 3) Once the track has been secured to the pool, place the snap-in insert into the track covering the track screws. Drill a 5/32” hole into the snap in insert and through the end guide and end cap. Secure a #10 x 1/2” screw into each of the holes. #10 x 1/2" SS Screw 5/32" Diameter #10 x 1/2" SS Screw 5/32" Diameter Rocky Roller Installation 1) Begin by assembling the end roller assembly. Install the 3” diameter PVC pipe into the roller assembly and position it so that the front edges of the roller assembly stands are a minimum of 31/2” behind the track. Refer to Figure 3 on page 8. The goal is to have the cover fabric leave and enter the track at a shallow an angle as possible. If you have room, an installation with the roller mounted below the coping provides for smoother operation (see diagram on page 6). In cases where there is not enough clearance from the pool wall to the existing wall, a secondary roller may be necessary. When mounted, the inside edge of the roller assembly will sit 11/2” outside of the track. The PVC pipe may need to be trimmed to create this 11/2” space. Secure the roller assembly to the pool ensuring that it is level and properly spaced in relation to the track. Using the self-drilling screws, secure the PVC pipe to each hub. Endless Pools Inc. Insert the rear end of the cover fabric (the end with the plain, unfinished edge) into the tracks, starting at the end opposite the roller. Thread the beads on both sides of the cover into the tracks and pull towards the roller assembly, completely covering the pool. Once the cover is slotted through the entire length of track on both sides, roll a small section of cover fabric onto the roller and fasten with the screws provided. Screw through the fabric into the 3” diameter PVC pipe at both ends and the middle. 2) Slide the leading edge on to the bead at the front of the cover. Despite the way it is stitched, the front bead does not extend all of the way to the sides of the fabric. The front bead ends an inch or so from the sides of the fabric. This allows a portion of the front edge of the fabric to be pulled down and out of the receiving slot on the leading edge. This leaves a few inches of the receiving slot on each end of the leading edge empty and allows the sides of the fabric to get folded down towards the tracks. Secure the fabric in place with pinning screws in the pre-drilled holes. Refer to Figure 2 on page 8. Insert the wheels into the ends of the leading edge and adjust so that they sit just outside of the tracks. Secure with the pinning screws provided. With the wheels in place, retract the cover so that the leading edge will pass smoothly along the track. Insert end caps in the end of the track opposite the roller. Tighten the set screw in the end caps to secure them to the track. 3) Install the locking strap as per the instructions included. Refer to Figure 5 on page 10. 4) Clip ropes to the eyehooks on the leading edge. Refer to Figure 4 on page 10. Outdoor Installations For outdoor installations, place the cover pump on top of the cover. Attach a garden hose to the water outlet and leave the pump plugged into a GFCI outlet. The pump will turn itself on automatically when the level of water on the cover is sufficient to satisfy the internal float level. Endless Pools Inc.
