Introduction This year Mad Catz has been working on a brand new driver update for Windows systems. The update is intended to bring wider compatibility to the platform for our Bluetooth based controllers. Our unique software solution will turn your Bluetooth controller into a full XInput compatible device, ideal for playing PC games and using with Steam Big Picture. The following document will detail exactly what you need to do get your C.T.R.L.R updated, and ready to go. The update is taken in two stages: 1. Firmware – Depending on the age of the C.T.R.L.R, you will need to update the firmware running on the product. 2. Software – Both driver and software installations need to be updated from our website. 2. Firmware Update We have supplied a firmware update application for Windows desktop computers, that will get your C.T.R.L.R to the latest version required for XInput functionality. First, you will need to check the firmware revision of the controller. Any firmware revision number lower than 0125 will need to be updated. If your firmware revision is 0125 or higher, go straight to Section 3. If you have purchased your C.T.R.L.R before June 2015, it is safe to say you will need to update the product. You will need a micro-USB cable and a PC running Windows to carry out the update. 1. Remove the batteries from the controller, connect one end of the Micro USB cable to the socket, and the other to an available port on your PC. 2. Windows will install some basic drivers. 3. Once the installation is complete, go to Control panel > System > Device Manager. 4. Locate the ‘Other Devices’ entry for the C.T.R.L.R. 5. Right-click the entry, select Properties. 6. Go to the Details tab and select Hardware IDs from the drop down menu to reveal the firmware revision (REV_xxxx). The image below shows the rev to be 0124, so this product definitely needs a firmware update, in order to be XInput compatible. 2 Note: Before, you update your firmware, if your C.T.R.L.R is already paired to your PC, please ensure it is removed from the Bluetooth device list. To update your firmware: 1. Go to http://madcatz.com/downloads/. 2. Scroll down to the firmware update section and click the C.T.R.L.R download link for 32 or 64 bit based operating systems. 3. Run the Setup.exe file that gets downloaded to your PC to install the update program. 4. The setup will place a Mad Catz Update Icon on your desktop. Click this icon to start the update process. You will be asked to connect the controller to the PC via the micro USB cable. 5. Follow each step in turn. It is important that the controller is calibrated and power cycled as instructed. Once the update is complete, you can check the firmware is updated by connecting it back to the PC via the USB cable and re-checking the Device Manager entry. 3 3. Software Update Now that the controller firmware is up to date, you can proceed to update the driver and software package. If you have already installed drivers and software for the C.T.R.L.R, the new versions will install over the top of any current versions installed on your PC. If you would like to carry out a clean install, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and remove the C.T.R.L.R application. 1. Go to http://madcatz.com/downloads/. 2. Select your operating system and product, you will then be given a link to download both the driver and the software application. 3. Run the driver file first. You may be asked to restart your PC. 4. Install the software application once the driver is installed. Note: If you installing on a Windows 8, or a Windows 10 system for the first time, you will be asked to install an update to .Net framework. Once .Net is updated, you may need to rerun the software installation. Once both are installed, the product is ready for XInput gaming. To jump in and start using your controller with games like Batman: Arkham City, Alien: Isolation and Portal 2 you will need to do the following: 1. Make sure both the driver and software applications are downloaded and installed on your system. 2. Slide the C.T.R.L.R mode switch to GameSmart (far left position). 3. Right click the system tray icon for your controller. 4. Left-Click the XInput option to enable the feature. Note: If you have keyboard and mouse profiles activated on the controller, click Clear to make sure there are no conflicts when using as an XInput Controller. If you want to go back to using your profiles, set the Controller back to HID and set the Mode switch to PC (right position). Once enabled, you can check the feature is working by: 1. Going to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. 2. Right-click the Xbox Controller entry, select Game Controllers and then select Properties. 3. Move the sticks and press the buttons to check it is working. 4 5
