Underground Electrical Duct Bank
•Purpose
–Increase reliability and capacity of power to campus facilities and UNC
Hospitals
–Provides a critical connection to the Manning Substation
•Implementation
–Install underground duct bank in McCauley, Pittsboro, and South Columbia Streets
–Four phases:
•Phase 1 RansomRansom-McCauley Intersection: Fall of 2006 with 1.5 month duration
•Phase 2 McCauley Street: Winter of 2007 with 7 month duration
•Phase 3 Pittsboro: Fall of 2007 with 4 month duration
•Phase 4 S. Columbia: Fall of 2007 with 4 month duration
•Needs to be complete by Spring 2008

–Six foot wide trench in street and eight
feet deep
–6 inch conduits encased in concrete
buried three feet below street
•High voltage transmission and
distribution circuits
•Telecommunications and control
circuits
