A Note from the Principal Websites Often, parents/guardians ask me for suggestions on ways that they can help their children at home. Of course, my first suggestion is to have them read more, but there are also many good websites that are fun, challenging and informative for elementary students. Some websites that I would recommend are everydaymathonline.com, studyisland.com, freerice.com and learnzillion.com. Our school subscribes to both the Study Island and the Everyday Math online websites. All students have a password for Everyday Math and students in grades three through five have a Study Island password. The other two websites are free and they have a lot to offer students. Free Rice is dedicated to ending hunger worldwide and they donate 10 grains of rice for every question that a student answers correctly. LearnZillion is a Gates Foundation funded website that gives students and families access to short videos on a variety of subjects. If your child is not sure how to find the area of a triangle or determine the theme of a poem, LearnZillion is the place to go. When the cold weather keeps us inside, these websites are great places to explore. Read a Thon starts January 26th – February 3rd. Reading can take you places… even on field trips! The Hull PTO proudly supports “Cozy Up With a Book” Month by announcing our 10th annual Read-A-Thon beginning January 28th – February 3rd. All children grades K-5 may participate. Students are encouraged (but not required) to ask friends and family members to sponsor them for reading. The idea is the more they read the more they earn. All funds earned will go into the PTO general fund, which supports field trips and activities for all Jacobs’ school students. Look for more information and pledge sheets on January 25th. Kindergarten Registration Week January 28th – February 1st The lost and found items are multiplying. Please encourage your child to take a look through our lost and found.
