ILLUMAPANEL FR® is a unique and innovative range of ultra-slim, fire-rated LED
light panels that are designed to illuminate your spaces more efficiently and built
to withstand the toughest elements and environments. They are manufactured in
the UK via a patented construction process and tested to the highest standards
and certification.
ILLUMAPANEL FR® was designed and created in
response to an increasing niche requirement in the
market and has numerous applications that include
- signage, wall lighting, escalator lighting, poster
illumination and skirting lighting.
The ILLUMAPANEL FR® units feature an energy
efficient LED light sheet encapsulated in a stainless
steel housing with a toughened laminated glass
diffuser.
ILLUMAPANEL FR® can be manufactured to any
bespoke size and shape up to a maximum of
3000mm x 1500mm
Mega Glass was asked to research, develop, test
and manufacture the toughend glass for the
ILLUMAPANEL FR® product and future product
line variations.

Brief:
Mega Glass was selected as a part of a small,
multi-disciplinary team of companies to identify the
requirements and develop the glass specification for
the visual element of the illumapanel product.
Requirements included the need for the product to
be smoke and fire rated, visually pleasing and able
to diffuse light in all conditions to ensure its suitability
against architect’s ‘public spaces’ requirements.
The initial installation requirements were to ensure
the product would be suitable for wall panels to an
underground station escalator, inside lift cars and
areas of high public foot-fall where heath and safety
are paramount.
Development:
At the iGlass Technology® innovation centre, our
team spent several months creating a lightweight,
cost effective glass solution that allowed maximum
light transmission though it and obscured any
potential LED hotspots - thus creating a perfectly
even light source whilst still maintaining its fire-rated
properties. Various options and combinations of
glass specification, thickness and diffuser levels
were considered during the developmental process
with extensive testing carried out at each stage to
ensure relevant standards were met. Consideration
to budget was also a requirement throughout the
developmental process to ensure the end product
could be a marketable item.
Outcome:
The development of a cost effective, unique,
toughened laminated safety glass solution that when
combined with the ILLUMAPANEL FR® would provide
an ultra-slim, fire-rated LED light panel suitable to
meet all health and safety requirements and be fully
compliant to the highest standards of certification.
