INTRODUCTION
The European Training Course on Waste Reduction and in the context of the EWWR corresponds to the need of
promoting good practices and benchmarking between all the stakeholders.
The European Training Course is an official tool of the European Week for Waste Reduction, which is supported by the
European Comission’s LIFE+ programme. The main partners in the project are ADEME (French Environment and Energy
Control Agency), which is the project leader, ACR+ (Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable
Resource management), ARC (Waste Agency of Catalonia), IBGE (Waste Management Agency for the Brussels Region,
Belgium) and LIPOR (Greater Porto Intermunicipal Waste Service, Portugal). Among other activities, the project is planned
to include the organization of 3 Editions of the European Week for Waste Reduction, with continental scope and impact
all over Europe, along with the European Awards for Waste Reduction.
The Training Course is intended to:
 Give an overview of policies of Waste Reduction in Europe;
 Give an overview of how to implemented Waste Reduction Plans at a national and local context;
 Give an overview of how to develop the EWWR (how to organize and promote and suggest practical examples of
initiatives.
AUDIENCE

Those who wish to participate in the European Week for Waste Reduction as an Organiser
EWWR Organisers are public authorities competent in the field of waste prevention. They act as coordinators of
the Week at the level of competence they represent in their country.
As such, they participate in promoting the event, ensuring the registration and validation of awareness-raising
actions proposed, and in coordinating these actions, which are carried out by a wide variety of actors; including
public authorities or administrations, associations or NGOs, businesses, industries, educational establishments or
others.
Public authorities may also choose to delegate these tasks to an associate organisation officially appointed by
them.
EWWR Organisers must officially adhere to the objectives of the European Week for Waste Reduction and to
various commitments within the framework of the project by signing the Organisers’ Commitment Charter.

Those who wish to participate in the European Week for Waste Reduction as a “Project Developer”
To be a Project developer you will simply need to register your idea for an action focused on waste reduction
(awareness-raising activity, information campaign, event, exhibition, presentation, other) with the “Organiser”
covering your area.
Project Developers can belong to one of the following categories:
Administration/public authority
Association/NGO
Business/industry
Educational establishment
Other (for example hospital, retirement home, cultural institution…)
