Remotely Operated Wire Cutter (ROWC)
A lightweight remotely operated
wire cutter designed for the remote
cutting of command wires or
wires within an IED circuit. Ideal
for use during light scale patrol
Improvised Explosive Device
Disposal (IEDD) operations.
The Remotely Operated Wire Cutter (ROWC) offers an EOD operator the ability to semiremotely cut wires at the usual safety distances. Extremely lightweight and ideal for use in
a light scale patrol IEDD role. ROWC is reusable and non-explosive, giving considerable
weight and logistic supply savings against conventional explosive wire cutting methods
currently in-service with EOD units.
ROWC consists of:
• A remote cutting unit with spring loaded ‘crab’
claws that give an indication of a successful
cut.
• A battery powered firing switch unit with
LED indications that show when the cutter
has performed its action and then been reset.
ROWC may be operated semi-remotely using the DTS Lightweight Cable and Line Reel
(LCLR) or any in-service firing cable at the usual safety distances. Following deployment on
a wire, the firing switch unit is operated and will give an indication that ROWC has operated
correctly. A successful cut of a wire is visibly indicated on the ROWC by the extended ‘crab’
claws which can be seen at a safe distance.

Operation
• The wire to be cut is placed within the predefined
cutting mouth on the ROWC
• ROWC will cut single or twin-flex wire
dependant on operator requirements
• The wire to be cut is also secured within the
‘Crab’ claws
• A firing cable is connected to the terminals of
ROWC
• At a safe distance; the firing switch unit is
connected to the end of the firing cable
• The firing switch unit is operated until the LED
indication shows that the unit has operated
correctly.
• The firing switch unit is then reset in preparation
for the next wire cut
• On receipt of the firing signal ROWC cuts the
wire and the ‘Crab’ claws exert themselves
separating the wire ends displaying a successful
cut
