Chapter 5.54 MOTION PICTURE SHOWS AND THEATERS Sections: 5.54.010 5.54.020 5.54.030 5.54.040 5.54.050 License required--Fee. Prizes prohibited. Exceptions. Application for license. Penalties for violations. Section 5.54.010 License required--Fee. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation within the limits of the city of Vancouver to open, conduct, manager, maintain or control, or in any manner be connected with the opening, conducting, managing, maintaining or controlling of any place of public amusement, entertainment or exhibition for which an admission is charged, without first taking out and procuring a license so to do. The license fees for such theaters or shows shall be as follows: All moving picture shows or theaters having a seating capacity of not to exceed five hundred persons shall pay a license fee of one hundred fifty dollars per year, payable annually; moving picture shows or theaters having a seating capacity of five hundred to one thousand persons shall pay an annual license fee of two hundred dollars payable annually; moving picture shows or theaters having a seating capacity of one thousand to one thousand five hundred shall pay an annual license fee of two hundred fifty dollars payable annually. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to sell, give away or advertise the selling or giving of any prizes at any moving picture theater or any other theater or show. (Ord. 919 § 2, 1915) Section 5.54.030 Exceptions. This chapter shall not apply to church, fraternal shows, fairs, sociables, concerts or other entertainments gotten up and conducted by the citizens of Vancouver for charitable, benevolent or fraternal purposes. (Ord. 919 § 3, 1915) Section 5.54.040 Application for license. Any person, firm or corporation desiring to obtain a license for any of the purposes named in this chapter shall apply to the city clerk for the same and the city clerk shall then issue a license in connection with the provisions of this chapter. (Ord. 919 § 4, 1915) Section 5.54.050 Penalties for violations. Any person violating the provisions of this chapter shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars or be imprisoned in the city jail for a term not exceeding thirty days. Should any firm or corporation violate the provision of this chapter, the officers of such corporation shall be deemed guilty of a violation of this chapter. (Ord. 919 §§ 6, 7, 1915)
