Education Resources Summary of progress HM Inspection Report – John Ogilvie High School John Ogilvie High School was inspected by HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in March 2013 as part of the inspection programme by Education Scotland. As a result of the very good performance, the strong record of improvement and the highly effective leadership of the school, HM Inspectors agreed to make no further report in connection with this inspection. An action plan was prepared to address recommendations made by HM Inspectors and South Lanarkshire Council was asked to report on the progress of this plan. The following provides a summary of the progress made in relation to each recommendation: Continue to raise attainment • The school has continued to raise attainment across the school through the ongoing development and review of a wide range of strategies, which include maintaining and improving performance of pupils in national examinations. Particular progress was made with the S4 cohort in session 2012/2013. The S5 assertive mentoring programme brings together pupils, tutors and parents with a specific focus on raising attainment. The Primary / Secondary numeracy project, linking S1 and S2 pupils with the associated P6 and P7 primary pupils, successfully developed leadership skills and increased the expectations of the school’s young people. • There is a strong culture of achievement with significant numbers of young people receiving achievement awards. These include Youth Achievement Awards, Dynamic Youth Awards, Caritas Awards in S6, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and National Awards in Public Speaking and Language Learning. The school is developing a School Charter to further promote the values of Commitment, Ambition, Resilience and Equality. The school’s culture of achievement and attainment is further promoted by the effective engagement of young people in the values of the Charter. Continue to develop the curriculum, taking account of Curriculum for Excellence • Very good progress has been made by the school in their continuing delivery of a dynamic, vibrant and bespoke curricular programme. Pupils continue to study a very broad range of subjects which reflect personal choice while developing skills for learning, life and work. • The school has effectively implemented the new National Qualifications with pupils presented for a range of qualifications in this year’s examination diet. Preparation for the New National 6 Higher is well under way. Tracking of pupil progress, particularly those at risk of missing out, has been taken forward by the school to ensure their entitlement to a Broad General Education (BGE) is met up to the end of S3. This is being delivered through additional programmes of Essential Skills, S2 Interdisciplinary Learning Projects and S3 Skills for Learning, Life and Work projects. In addition, inserts such as The Holocaust, Seismology and Health Days ensure this entitlement is delivered.
