data from all types of devices that
monitor vehicle performance and

Within the limits imposed by available
telecommunications systems,
InteRRIS® provides near real-time
notification of important events for
monitored vehicles to its users.
InteRRIS® enables planned
maintenance, resulting in improved

and lower costs through scheduled
maintenance at facilities when railcars
are empty. In addition, InteRRIS® can
monitor post maintenance performance
to provide a quality control check on the
maintenance performed. From a remote

Putting it all Together
InteRRIS® is a large database of vehicle
performance data, collected nation wide,
surrounded by application layers that allow
users full access to the performance data,
consolidated and summarized, at the most
beneficial and useful levels. InteRRIS®
collects, compiles, and analyzes data from
various types of vehicle performance
monitoring devices to create a composite
view of railway vehicle performance. This
view can be selectively modified by
InteRRIS® users to create semi-custom
event notifications and reports for
individual vehicle performance or overall
fleet performance.
Supporting the InteRRIS® database are the
independent arrays of railroad-owned
monitoring devices that
continuously feed data into the database.
The design for InteRRIS® accommodates
existing devices including truck
performance measurement systems,
acoustic bearing monitoring systems, and
wheel impact load detectors, just to name a
few. In addition, the database is currently
being expanded to accommodate new types
of monitoring systems, such as wheel
profile measurement systems.
