Windows Event Log –
full or inaccessible
After installing Pastel Partner Payroll 2012 Update 2, an error message might display on opening Pastel
Payroll. The error message displays when the ESS Publisher is not installed or if it is installed but not
registered.

Workaround
1. Right-click My Computer or Computer and select Manage. The Computer Management screen
displays.
2. Go to System Tools…Event Viewer…Windows Logs…Application. Right click Application and select
Clear Log or Clear all Events depending on the Windows version you are running.

3. Also go to System Tools…Event Viewer…Security. Right-click on Security and select Clear Log or
Clear all Events depending on the Windows version you are running.
4. Using the Pastel Payroll 2012 Update 2 installation disk, install the ESS Publisher from the ESS
folder. (Instructions for the ESS Publisher installation are in section 1 | Installation of ESS Publisher
on pages 1 to 4 in the guide supplied on your installation disk).
5. Start the ESS Publisher and register as a demo. (Instructions for the registration procedure are in
section 2 | Configuration on pages 4 to 7 in the guide supplied on your installation disk).
6. Start Pastel Payroll.
7. If you still receive the error, clear the Application and Security Logs again.
8. Start Pastel Payroll from the Desktop using “Run as Administrator”. Ensure the Pastel Payroll Update
2 disk is in the drive as a Repair may be required.
9. When the repair is complete and Pastel Payroll has launched, close Pastel Payroll.
10. Open Pastel Payroll again.
