Continuing a tradition that extends for more than a
century, Howden ČKD Compressors develops and
manufactures not only compressors but also electric
motors and generators.
The excellence of our research, development,
design and manufacturing is reflected in the
large number of units we have successfully
installed worldwide. To date, we have
delivered over 15,000 asynchronous, 10,000
synchronous and 35,000 direct-current
motors to a broad range of customers.
The success of our motors encouraged us
to offer them as a separate product, and we
diversified the range and began to offer a
bespoke design and manufacturing option,
again reflecting the practices underpinning
our successful range of compressors. Today
we offer first-class, tailor-made and reliable
high voltage synchronous, asynchronous,
and DC motors, as well as synchronous
generators. Motors are available in variable
speed versions, with typical power ratings
from 2 to 50 Megawatts, and our generators
can be supplied with between 2 and 80 poles
to suit the speed of the drive.
We also produce a broad range of special
products on request for a number of
specific applications.

and generators are covered by a full
commitment to aftermarket support,
spares and maintenance.

Howden ČKD Compressors motors and generators are the product of continual
research and development. We constantly investigate and test new materials,
technologies and ideas to improve performance. Not only do our motors and
generators offer the highest levels of efficiency and reliability, we support them
with an outstanding consultation, design and installation services.
Virtually all machines can be provided in either vertical and horizontal orientations. We can supply motors with non-standard voltage
or frequency specifications for unique situations, and custom design and build machines for unusual load requirements, including
difficult startups such as high inertia and load-torque curves.
Where we are asked to supply a replacement for an existing motor, from any manufacturer, we can match the footprint and fixing
points precisely to the previous pattern so that the base plate can be retained, minimising the time and cost of installation.

We are regularly contracted to provide
highly specialised motors including dualwinding, 2-pole versions for speed control,
synchronous 40-pole motors powered by
variable frequency convertors for use in mine
elevators, and enclosed motors manufactured
to EExd or EExp standards suitable for use
in hazardous or explosive environments.
In all cases, we combine our advanced
technology and superb engineering with
the configurations, size and specifications
that match customer requirements precisely.
The result is excellent power-to-weight
ratio and an efficiency of up to 98%. All our
customers have access to our wide range
of services that includes professional
installation by highly skilled and experienced
technicians, lifetime support and expert
maintenance.
Our equipment naturally meets all the
relevant international and local quality
and safety criteria, including certification
in accordance with the national standards
of the FSU countries.
