Gorgeous Guthrie
Hello there! My name is Guthrie. My
mom and siblings and I were rescued
from the pound a few months ago. My
mom and twin brother have already
been adopted, but my sisters, Fearless
and Violet, and I are still in search of our
forever homes. I am a very sweet boy, a
medium-haired part Siamese, about 6 months old, and I have gorgeous
blue eyes. I was just neutered recently, and am up to date on my shots,
so am all set to go! My favorite things include tumbling with my sisters
and my buddy, Ace; playing with the spinny-ball toy, and running and
jumping like crazy! If you are interested in adopting Guthrie or any
PAWS animal, please email pawsofjackson@gmail.com (preferred), or
text or leave a voice message at 507-841-2822.

PREVIEW
Decades of dedication
She has been at it for more than 32 years, the last 19
of them in Lakefield.
She has enjoyed the journey, even though she
started out in a very small way. But she has stayed
the course and has reached the pinnacle of her
career, attaining the highest position a person can
attain at a local level with this particular entity.
Through it all, she has endured change and has overcome
some difficult challenges while holding to the standard of
the position she has held with the service she has dedicated
her life to for more than three decades.
Learn just who this person is, what she has done over
her career, why she headed in that direction initially
and where she is headed next in this week’s Lakefield
Standard, available at newsstand locations throughout the
county, including at Maynard’s Food Center in downtown
Lakefield. Or call the Standard office at 662-5555 or go
to lakefieldstandard.com to start your print or electronic
subscription today.
This week’s Standard is also packed with extras, including salutes to all Jackson County Central varsity athletes
and cheerleaders in honor of homecoming week, complete
coverage of the homecoming coronation ceremony and the
much-anticipated annual fall home improvement edition.

Amanda Stubbe recalls sitting in an empty house in a
strange village on a small island 7,380 miles from home

Wednesday, Oct. 19 – Kuipers brown bag program
Library, Jackson - Noon Karla Kuipers will present
“Travels to Finland, Iceland and Estonia.” Kuipers, of Jackson, had always wanted to visit the country her grandparents
had immigrated from in the early 20th century. During her
two-week trip, she visited southern Finland, stopping in
Somero, the hometown of the Laine family. A Golden Circle
tour in Iceland featured the beautiful and rugged terrain of
Iceland — geysers, waterfalls and wildlife to name a few.
Going to Estonia, one steps back in time, Kuipers said, as
this country had been under Russian domination for many
years. All are invited to bring their lunch and attend free
of charge. Coffee and tea will be provided.
