Sun Peak Generating Station 6226 W. SAHARA AVE. LAS VEGAS, NV 89146 Location: East side of Las Vegas Peak Generating Capacity: 210 Megawatts (Summer Peak) Plant Description: The Sun Peak Generating Station is a clean-burning natural gas-fueled power plant that helps NV Energy meet the needs of its customers, especially during the hot summer months when customer needs are at their highest. The power plant utilizes three simple-cycle General Electric 7EA combustion turbines to produce electricity. Each can be independently operated to increase generation production as customer needs progress during high energy use periods. Interesting Features: The plant can produce enough electricity to serve approximately 125,000 customers. The now-demolished 150-megawatt Sunrise Generating Station was adjacent to the Sun Peak Generating Station. It was NV Energy’s second oldest generating facility in Southern Nevada and included a 1964 steam boiler and a 1974 simple-cycle combustion turbine. The units were dismantled in 2013. NV Energy annually provides approximately $32 million in tax revenue to Clark County that benefits general county operations, schools, libraries and other civic activities. The plant went into service in 1991 and was originally owned by an independent power producer. NV Energy purchased the generating station late 2014. Employment: The plant is supported by personnel and resources from the Edward W. Clark Generating Station, but typically five employees operate and maintain the plant on rotating shifts.
