Bitu-containers factsheet
Specifically designed
for greater efficiency
We have invested in a fleet of 1,000 state
of the art bitu-containers for road, rail and
sea transportation. Our bitu-containers are
20ft containers, specially designed to store
and handle hot bitumen. They can load up
to 25.8 tonnes net of bitumen and can be
used as a transport unit, loaded in flat-bed
trucks, or as storage facilities.
Mobile loading gantry
Our integrated logistics is combining
our fleet of 1,000 bitu-containers with
cutting edge Mobile Loading Gantries
(MLG) allowing the direct discharge
of Bitumen tankers into three
bitu-containers and/or road tankers
simultaneously.
The MLG has been designed and
tested for a safe discharge rate
of 200-250mt/h.

A 5,000mt ship can be discharged
within a day.

Using bitu-containers
and our own doublehulled vessels reduces
environmental risk.
Advantages
Our bitu-containers offer
customers several key advantages
over transportation via drums.
And they form a crucial part
of our flexible and reliable
distribution network, which allows
our customers and communities to
benefit from an economical and
more environmentally friendly
mode of transportation.
■■
Bitu-containers facilitate bulk
logistics when there’s no access
to shore tanks.
■■
Bitu-containers can provide buffer
storage at client sites.
■■
They generate less wastage
and are more environmentally
friendly than transportation via
drums. Drums cannot be emptied
fully so between 3% and 5%
of product is wasted from
every drum.
■■
Transportation via drums creates
more bureaucratic issues during
import and transit.
■■
Bitu-containers allow for easier
loading and unloading.
■■
Drums are more easily stolen
and damaged during transit and
storage: around 2% of drums are
damaged during transport.
■■
Drums also lead to higher
expenses when heating: the costs
are on average 50% higher than
the cost of heating bulk.
