College Petition COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND APPLIED SCIENCE College Petition Guidelines Any exceptions or waivers to departmental or College rules must have prior approval by petition. This petition must be completed and submitted to your major department for departmental approval and then forwarded to the Dean’s Office for approval. It is the student’s responsibility to follow up on the petition’s progress and be aware of the final decision. The following list provides some examples of situations that must be petitioned: to take less than 12 or more than 19 credit hours per semester; to enroll in a course when you have not satisfied the prerequisites for that course; when more than one-half of your semester’s academic course work does not meet engineering degree requirements; to waive a required course; to drop or add a course after College or University deadlines; to request the pass/fail grade option; to enroll for a course No Credit (NC); to ensure that courses taken elsewhere will be counted toward degree requirements. This petition must be clearly written, concise, and legible to all who must judge its merits. When referring to specific courses, the appropriate course number and title should be given. IMPORTANT: Once the petition has been submitted to the Dean’s Office in ECAD 100, the student should return after three (3) working days to be informed of the final decision of the petition. The student should not assume that major department approval automatically assures College and/or course instructor approval. Failure by the student to confirm the final petition decision makes the student responsible for any errors or problems that may result.
