Teacher to introduce task – FOCUS ON THE PARTS OF SPEECH
All students will have individually or in pairs depending on the level of the group a copy of
Parts Of Speech Poem and word cards that they must arrange and sort.
Task is to fill the gaps with the appropriate cards using their prior knowledge, clues in
the sentences, and what students know of sentence construction. The words on the cards
provide useful clues
After 5 min teacher should draw group together and using OHT should complete the poem
using student answers ensuring that the correct words are used and any inaccuracies are
corrected.
DEVELOPMENT
Students to write definitions for parts of speech in book
Some students will know the parts of speech and be confident – others will not.
The teacher must ensure that all students have a grasp of the basics of the parts of
speech and that this skill is revisited if necessary through a further starter activity or more
formal teaching of the parts of speech.
