48 HOURS NOTICE REQUIRED FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A PERMIT
** Please read the following requirements carefully:
 We require a copy of your Certificate of Insurance showing there is $2M Automobile Liability
and $2M Commercial General Liability in place prior to issuance of permit.
 Verification from your insurance company that they are aware of the type of load(s) you are
transporting
 Seasonal Load Restrictions from Mar 1st to May 1st (limited to 5 tonnes per axle)
 You may be required to obtain a permit from MTO or other municipalities if your route is
other than on County of Simcoe roads.
 Upon receipt of Permit it must be signed by client and copy returned to us immediately via
fax.

OVERSIZE-OVERWEIGHT LOAD PERMIT
SINGLE PERMITS
PART A
A 1.
Vehicles and loads in excess of the width and/or length prescribed under Section 109 of the Highway Traffic
Act shall be marked with four or more flags, one as near as practicable to each corner of the vehicle or load.
The flags shall be bright red or orange in colour and shall be not less than 40 cm square. Where a vehicle or
load is wider at any point or points on either side than at the corner, it shall, where practicable, be so marked
with such a flag at the widest point on each side.
A 2.
Vehicles and loads in excess of the length prescribed under Section 109 of the Highway Traffic Act shall, in
addition to the flags required under A 1., display on the rear, in a clearly visible position, a sign bearing the
words “Long Load” in black letters at least 200 mm high with lines forming the letters at least 30 mm wide on
a yellow background, or a “D” sign. The sign is to be removed or covered when not in use.
A 3.
Where a permit is issued on the condition that the permit holder provide Private Escort Vehicle or Vehicles:

i
The escort vehicle(s) shall be operated by a person not less than 18 years of age.
ii
The escort vehicles(s) shall not have more than two (2) axles and a wheelbase length of not less than
2.65 m and shall be equipped with an amber flashing roof light visible from the front and rear for a
distance of at least 150 m and shall precede on a two lane highway or follow on a four lane highway at
a distance of 60 to 150 m and shall bear a sign clearly visible for a distance of at least 150 m,
“CAUTION OVERSIZE LOAD FOLLOWS” or “CAUTION OVERSIZE LOAD AHEAD” as the case
may be in black letters at least 200 mm high with lines forming the letters at least 30 mm wide on a
yellow background, or a “D” sign. The sign is to be removed or covered when not in use.
iii
When escorting a move in excess of 4.0 m in width, the escort vehicles(s) and towing vehicle(s) shall
be equipped with a working two-way radio communication device permitting inter-communication
between the vehicles.
iv
All units, including the escort vehicle(s), will be operated with headlights on when traveling on a
highway.

Payment of Annual/Special Annual permit fees must be made prior to the permit being issued. Single permit
fees will be invoiced to you by our Finance Department. Failure to pay the fee shall result in the permit being
cancelled and further permits not being issued.

MOBILE CRANES (see also A & B above)
PART C C 1.
Every driver of a mobile crane operated pursuant to this permit shall hold and carry a valid class (DZ) driver’s
license while driving a mobile crane and surrender the license for reasonable inspection upon demand of a
police officer or officer of the Ministry.
C 2.
In accordance to any speed restriction imposed as a condition of this permit, no mobile crane operated
pursuant to this permit shall exceed the posted speed limit or 80 km/h.
C 3.
Every mobile crane operated pursuant to this permit shall have Third Party Liability Insurance in an amount of
not less than $2,000,000 (TWO MILLION DOLLARS). The insurance is to be issued by an insurer licensed
under the Insurance Act.
C 4.
Every driver of a mobile crane operated pursuant to this permit shall carry evidence of insurance and
surrender same for reasonable inspection upon demand of a police officer or officer of the Ministry.
C 5.
Prior to operation on the highways, every driver of a mobile crane operated pursuant to this permit shall carry
out an inspection of the mechanical components of the mobile crane in accordance with Section 107 of the
Highway Traffic Act and Regulations made thereunder. The contents of this inspection shall comply with the
requirements of Schedules 1 & 2 of Regulation 575, and must be recorded in a log book to be carried by the
driver and surrendered upon demand of a police officer or officer of the Ministry. Use of the “Mobile Crane
Log”, published by the Construction Safety Association of Ontario is an accepted document for these
purposes.
C 6.
Notwithstanding Section 16.(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act every operator of a mobile crane operated
pursuant to this permit shall be the holder of a Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration Certificate (CVOR)
issued under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act.
C 7.
Every driver of a mobile crane operated pursuant to this permit shall carry the original or a copy of the CVOR
certificate and upon demand of a police officer or officer of the Ministry, surrender for inspection the CVOR
certificate or copy thereof.
C 8.
Every mobile crane operated pursuant to this permit shall have attached to or painted on both sides of the
vehicle in a clearly visible position, a sign showing the name and address of the operator.
C 9.
This permit is valid from one half hour after sunset to one half hour before sunrise, provided a retro-reflected
band (black and Yellow chevron design) at least 15 cm high is displayed at the rear across the entire width of
the vehicle.
C10.
Notwithstanding condition 4(c) of the Primary Conditions, in the event of an emergency requiring the use of a
mobile crane, movement under this permit may be made on Saturday, Sunday, and Statutory Holidays.
