1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A.
Store materials under cover, in dry place, and in manner to prevent damage or intrusion
of foreign matter.
1.05 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Maintain materials and surrounding air temperature to minimum 40 degrees F prior to,
during, and 48 hours after completion of simulated stone veneer work. Protect
materials from rain and moisture during same period of time.
B.
Allow no construction activity on opposite side of wall during installation and for 48
hours after completion of work.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS

C. Hydrated Lime: ASTM C 270.
D. Mortar Pigments: Natural and synthetic iron oxides and chromium oxides,
compounded for use in mortar mixes. Use only pigments with a record of satisfactory
performance in masonry mortar.

Metal Lath: Minimum 18 gage, 2.5 lb. flat diamond mesh, galvanized.
F.
Water: Potable.
G. Stone Adhesive: 2-part polyester or epoxy-resin stone adhesive with a 15- to 45minute cure at 70 deg F, recommended by adhesive manufacturer for type of
installation indicated, matching simulated stone.
2.02 MORTAR MIXES
A. Mixing: Thoroughly mix mortar ingredients in quantities needed for immediate use in
accordance with ASTM C 270, Type N. Do not use antifreeze compounds to lower the
freezing point of mortar.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION
A. Attach metal lath to framing with large headed hot dipped galvanized nails or screws,
spaced 6-inch on center vertically and 16 inches on center horizontally, that penetrate
sheathing l-inch minimum. Wrap mesh continuously around comers not less than 16
inches.
3.02 SIMULATED STONE VENEER INSTALLATION
A. Apply 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch of mortar to lath, covering not more than 10 sq. ft. at a time.

Lightly butter back of simulated stone to ensure 100 percent bond. Press units firmly
into position into soft mortar bed, causing mortar to extrude slightly around edges of
units.
B.
Place units with uniform mortar joints, not more than 1/2-inch in width.
C.
Perform necessary cutting using tools recommended by simulated stone manufacturer
to provide uniform edges, taking care to prevent breaking unit edges or corners.
C. Remove excess mortar to prevent smearing on face of simulated stone. Tool joints,
compacting mortar and completely sealing around edges of simulated stone. Use grout
bag to fill in joints requiring additional mortar.
D. Clean and finish joints in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
3.04 CLEANING
A.
In-Progress Cleaning: Clean simulated stone veneer as work progresses by dry
brushing to remove mortar fins and smears before tooling joints.
B.
Final Cleaning: After mortar is thoroughly set and cured, clean surface of simulated
stone veneer with a bristle brush using a strong solution of granulated soap or detergent
and water. Do not use wire brush. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning.
