Investigating a POLS Triggered Alarm Condition The Wired Point of Leak Sensor (POLS) provides a way to sense moisture on any non-conductive surface. It is wired directly to the Leak Defense System® Control Panel and, when moisture is detected, will send a signal to initiate an alarm condition. The POLS should be placed such that the two probes firmly touch the surface to be protected. The POLS is completely self-contained and preset at the factory. Investigating a POLS triggered alarm condition 1. Once an alarm is triggered by the POLS, the homeowner must interact with the control panel to investigate, to cancel the alarm and to turn the water back on. 2. As with any other alarm condition, we recommend the homeowner thoroughly inspect their home looking for evidence of a leak prior to working through the alarm condition diagnostic screens. Obviously, the homeowner should check the areas where each POLS is placed as well as other areas where a plumbing leak may occur such as laundry rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, mechanical rooms and water heaters. 3. From the alarm screen, the homeowner will need to utilize the alarm condition diagnostic screens to determine the source and intensity of the leak: Diagnosis Step 1 • Touch the arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen • Follow the instructions on pages 17 -19 in the Owners Manual • If water flow is normal and no leak is located, then it is possible that the alarm was triggered by the POLS. Please proceed to step 2 of the diagnosis process. Sentinel Hydrosolutions 1305 Simpson Way, Suite E Escondido, CA 92029 866-410-1134 Diagnosis Step 2 • Upon completion of Step 1 of the diagnosis process, the LEAK DEFENSE SYSTEM® will be in the HOME mode with the water turned ON. • If the initial alarm condition was indeed triggered by a POLS and if the moisture source has not evaporated, then this setting should now trigger a second alarm within one minute. Special Note: Depending on how much time has elapsed since the original alarm condition has signaled the LEAK DEFENSE SYSTEM® to shut the water off, it is possible that the area around the POLS has dried and will therefore not immediately trigger a second alarm condition The POLS will only trigger another alarm once it becomes damp again. This may take minutes, hours or days so the homeowner should check the area being monitored by the POLS regularly. • While the system is in Alarm, to confirm that a POLS has triggered the alarm condition, touch the arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen. • Touch the ‘Review Alarm Settings’ box • Touch the ‘Systems Status’ box • Locate ‘EXT INP’ in the second to last position on the list • If the data depicted is ‘010 000’, then a POLS has triggered the alarm. i. If more than one POLS is wired to the control panel, visually inspect each POLS location to determine which one triggered the alarm condition. ii. Once the source of a leak is determined, the water supply for this source should be turned off (i.e. ice maker line) or the source appliance (i.e. dishwasher) should not used until it can be repaired. If this intervention is possible, then the homeowner may simply reset the System as follows: a) Touch the arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen b) Touch the ‘Exit’ box c) The System is now reset in the ‘Home Mode’ • If the data depicted is ‘000 000’ then a POLS did not trigger the alarm. The alarm was triggered by a temporary water flow that exceeded the ‘Time to Alarm’ and the Flow to Alarm’ parameters. 4.
