The conference provides an opportunity for specialists from around the world to meet and to discuss ongoing research. Topics of interest to the Conference include: aging, biodielectrics, outdoor insulation, surface flashover, polarization phenomena, measurement techniques, partial discharge measurements, nanodielectrics, flow electrification, charge storage and transport, electrohydrodynamics, high-field effects, charge and field mapping, treeing, prebreakdown and breakdown in solids, liquids, gases, and vacuum. THE WHITEHEAD LECTURE The Whitehead Memorial Lecture is named in honor of Dr. John Boswell Whitehead, a pioneer in electrical insulation and dielectrics to the Conference include: aging; biodielectrics; outdoor insulation; surface flashover; polarization phenomena; measurement techniques; partial discharge measurements; nanodielectrics; flow electrification; charge storage and transport; and a long-time contributor to the CEIDP. The Conference opens each year with the Lecture and it is the keynote session of the Conference. The 2009 Whitehead Memorial Lecture will be given by Professor Dr. Kramer. Prof. Dr. Friedrich Kremer, born in 1949 studied physics at the University of Munich (1968 – 1973) and received his M.Sci. Degree in theoretical molecular physics. Afterwards he completed additional courses in biology at the university of Freiburg i.Br. (1974) and obtained his Ph.D. in the field of biological cybernetics (1977). As a PostDoc he worked at the Max-Planck-Institut for Solid State Physics in Stuttgart. There he developed novel spectroscopic techniques for millimeter wave and far infra-red spectroscopy. During that time he collaborated closely with Prof. Herbert Fröhlich (Whitehead lecturer in 1974) and edited together with him the book Coherent Excitations in Biological Systems (H. Fröhlich and F. Kremer, Eds., Springer Verlag 1983). From 1985 – 1993 he was a senior researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, where he focused on polymer physics and materials research and developed automatic measurement systems for Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy covering the entire range from 10-3 Hz to 1010 Hz. In 1993 he received an invitation from the University of Leipzig to assume a role of the chair of experimental physics. From 1998 – 2006 he was the director of the Institute for Experimental Physics I, a position which was held from 1928 – 1935 by Peter Debye (Whitehead lecturer in 1956).Together with A. Schönhals he published the book entitled Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (Springer Verlag 2003). The current research interests of Prof. Kremer include Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy, 2D-IR-Spectroscopy and experiments with Optical Tweezers. They encompass molecular dynamics of glassy materials and polymers under geometrical confinement conditions, charge transport and dynamics of ionic liquids, structure-property relationships in artificial or natural fibers, e.g. spider-silk, single molecule and single colloid experiments using optical tweezers. In 2005 Prof. Kremer received the Karl Heinz Beckurts Award for his achievements in promoting Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy and its applications. He is married and has two adult sons. In spare time he enjoys playing classical music on the piano. REGISTRATION All Conference attendees must register for the Conference.
