INSTALLATION
HORIZONTAL ECONOMIZERS
1. Attach mixing box to unit evaporator return, using
the flanges provided. This is intended to connect
the units, and not to support the full weight of the
economizer mixing box – EXTRA FIELD SUPPORT IS REQUIRED. This may be from the ceiling, or from beneath the unit.
2. Determine which inlet will be outside air, and which
will be return air. If the normal open/closed position
of the dampers needs to be reversed, remove the
actuators, reset the damper positions so that the
outside air damper is closed and the return air
damper is open, and reattach the actuators so that
they are rotating in the appropriate direction.
3. Mount the W7215 module and protective casing on
the free side of the mixing box, using the brackets
provided. For units between 8 and 15 tons, the
module may be mounted between the economizer
mixing box and the evaporator discharge ductwork
on the air handler itself.
4. The module is connected to the unit wiring via wiring harness. Connect the thermostat wiring as indicated in the Installation Instruction for Ceiling
Mounted Ducted Air Conditioners.
5. With the power to the module, the actuator springs
will wind and lock. The enthalpy changeover setting may be altered, and the minimum outside air
damper position set. See the attached Honeywell
information for details.
VERTICAL ECONOMIZERS
1. Attach mixing box to unit evaporator return, using
the metal securing strip provided. Fasteners may
also be used around the perimeter of the mixing
box, at the location of the filter frame, for additional
security. This is intended to connect the units, and
not to support the full weight of the economizer
mixing box – EXTRA FIELD SUPPORT IS
REQUIRED. This may be from the ceiling, or from
beneath the unit.

2. Determine which inlet will be outside air, and which
will be return air. If the normal open/closed position
of the dampers needs to be reversed, remove the
actuator, reset the damper positions so that the
outside air damper is closed and the return air
damper is fully open. Adjust the linkage rod to
these normal positions, and secure. Reattach the
actuator so that it is rotating in the appropriate
direction.
3. The module is connected to the unit wiring via wiring harness. The harness is connected at the plug
located on the corner post of the air conditioning
unit. Connect the thermostat wiring as indicated in
the Installation Instruction for Vertical Air Conditioners.
4. With the power to the module, the actuator springs
will wind and lock. The enthalpy changeover setting may be altered, and the minimum outside air
damper position set. See the attached Honeywell
information for details.
Prior to installing or servicing the unit, lock all
electrical power supply switches in the off position. Failure to disconnect power supply may
result in electrical shock or even death.
Additional field support of the mixing box is
required. Failure to provide adequate support
for the unit may result in injury or even death.
Exercise care when working around the sharp
metal edges of door panels or flanges. These
edges are sharp and can cause injury.

SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
MODULATING ECONOMIZER WITH ELECTRO MECHANICAL THERMOSTAT
The Honeywell W7215 module, ML series actuators,
York damper sections and wiring harness comprise an
integrated economizer. Economizers are used to provide ventilation and free cooling for the York series of
vertical and horizontal through the wall air handlers.
The Honeywell W7215 accepts inputs from a room
thermostat, outdoor and return air enthalpy sensors a
discharge air sensor as well as an optional CO2 sensor.
Additional contact inputs and outputs are available on
the module to enable a variety of ventilation strategies;
through the activation of supply and exhaust fans.
Powering the Thermostat (24vac).
Power to the electromechanical thermostat is provided
from R terminal of the York unit’s low voltage terminal
strip. Electromechanical thermostats do not require a
24 vac common connection.
Powering the W7215 (24vac).
The W7215 is designed to be powered from the York
air handler when the fan of the air handler is operating.
To ensure that the W7215 is powered the fan switch on
the thermostat subbase should be left on at all times. In
this way the economizer will be powered from the G
terminal on the thermostat.
When the outside air enthalpy exceeds the enthalpy
setpoint on the W7215 the NO contacts of relays 1K
and 2K close.
First Stage Cooling: A cooling signal from the thermostat Y1, first stage cooling is routed through NO contact
1K to engage the first compressor of the York unit.
Second Stage Cooling: A second call for cooling Y2 is
routed through the NO contact 2K to engage the second compressor.
During this sequence the outside dampers are held at
a preset minimum position. The minimum may be overridden from a remote potentiometer.
Low Enthalpy Sequence:
To prevent operation of mechanical cooling at low temperatures during the economizer cycle, a low ambient
outdoor thermostat LL-1 can be installed if desired.
The contacts are connected to TB-3. If the outdoor
temperature is below the set point of LL-1, and the
N.O. FREE COOLING contacts of the W7215 are
closed, 24 vac will be supplied to the holding coil of R3
opening their NC contacts so that mechanical cooling
will be disabled.
First Stage Cooling: During the low enthalpy
sequence relays 1K and 2K are not energized. The
first call for cooling Y1 powers relay IS through the NC
contact 1K. When IS is powered IS1 closes enabling
the discharge sensor C7046 to modulate the outside
air and return air damper.
Night Operation.
Night set back or set up of hvac equipment utilizing
electromechanical thermostats requires two thermostats one each for day and night set points. Switching
between thermostats is accomplished utilizing a time
clock and switching relay.
Typically the outside air dampers are held closed during night time operation. Contacts SD1 and SD2 of the
W7215 will maintain the dampers in the closed position
when jumpered. Contacts SD1 and SD2 are wired
through the economizer wiring harness to terminals A1
and A2 located on the low voltage terminal strip. Do not
provide 24 vac to these terminals.
High Enthalpy Sequence:
12
Second Stage Cooling: A second call for cooling Y2 is
routed through the NC contact 2K of the W7215 to
energize the first compressor.
Damper Modulation:
On York units as well as most rooftop hvac units the
C7046 should be located in the discharge air duct.
Because of short duct runs effective sensing and control of the mixed air temperature is not possible. Locating the sensor in the discharge air provides effective
sensing and control. The outside air damper remains at
minimum position if the discharge air temperature is
below 50° F or 10° C. If the discharge air temperature is
between 50° to 56° F or 10° to 13.3° C the outside air
damper will not modulate. Above 56° F or 10° C the
dampers will modulate.

MODULATING ECONOMIZER WITH T7300 THERMOSTAT
The Honeywell W7215 module, ML series actuators,
York damper sections and wiring harness comprise an
integrated economizer. Economizers are used to provide ventilation and free cooling for the York series of
vertical and horizontal through the wall air handlers.
The Honeywell W7215 accepts inputs from a room
thermostat, outdoor and return air enthalpy sensors, a
discharge air sensor, as well as an optional CO2 sensor. Additional contact inputs and outputs are available
on the module to enable a variety of ventilation strategies; through the activation of supply and exhaust fans.
R4 and the NC contact of R3 (4-5) to the third compressor. During this sequence the outside dampers are
held at a preset minimum position. The minimum may
be overridden from a remote potentiometer.
Low Enthalpy Sequence:
To prevent operation of mechanical cooling at low temperatures during the economizer cycle, a low ambient
outdoor thermostat LL-1 can be installed if desired.
The contacts are connected to TB-3. If the outdoor
temperature is below the set point of LL-1, and the
N.O. FREE COOLING contacts of the W7215 are
closed, 24 vac will be supplied to the holding coil of R3
opening the NC contacts so that mechanical cooling
will be disabled.
Powering the W7215 (24vac).
The W7215 is designed to be powered from the York
air handler when the fan of the air handler is operating.
To ensure that the W7215 is powered the fan operation
mode should be left in the T7300 default setting. In this
way the economizer will be powered from the G terminal on the thermostat.
Night Operation.
The blower operates continuously during occupied
periods and intermittently during unoccupied periods.
Since this would cause the economizer to open during
unoccupied periods, N.O. contacts A3 and A2 on the
T7300 subbase are wired to the air handlers low voltage terminal strip. When contacts A3 and A2 on the
thermostat subbase make at night, SD1 and SD2 are
effectively jumpered and the outside dampers of the
economizer remain closed during night operation of the
blower.
First Stage Cooling: During the low enthalpy
sequence relays 1K and 2K are not energized. The
first call for cooling Y1 powers relay IS through the NC
contact 1K. When IS is powered IS1 closes enabling
the discharge sensor C7046 to modulate the outside
air and return air damper.
Second Stage Cooling: A second call for cooling Y2 is
routed through the NC contact 2K of the W7215 to
energize the first compressor.
Third Stage Cooling: Twenty-five ton units only:
The holding coil of R4 is energized whenever a low
enthalpy condition is sensed by the W7215. The third
call for cooling Y3 is routed through the NO contacts of
R4 (which are now closed) through the NC contact of
R3 (2-1) to terminal 4 of the W7215 and from there to
the second compressor. At this time the outside
damper will modulate in response to the discharge sensor, Y2 will engage the first compressor and Y3 will
engage the second compressor.
High Enthalpy Sequence:
Damper Modulation:
When the outside air enthalpy exceeds the enthalpy
setpoint, the NO contacts of relays 1K and 2K close.
Third Stage Cooling: Twenty-five ton units only: A
third call for cooling is routed directly from the thermostat via the wiring harness to through the NC contact of
