PICTify is a control panel that provides you with screen capturing capabilities. You may capture the entire screen, a selection that you define, the front most window, or a pulled-down menu (including pop-up menus) to a file or to the clipboard. If you save the snapshot to a file, you have the option of saving it to a TeachText™ PICT file or to a ResEdit™ file. Pictify is shareware and can be found on the web or on the HyperStudio CD ROM that came with many computers. PICTify is invoked by pressing the keyboard combination that is specified in the control panel. You can then choose what and how to save the snapshot following these simple instructions: I. Flash-It v.3.02 is a screen capture shareware tool for your Macintosh that goes into your control panel. It is a wonderful tool that facilitates screen shots for collecting photographs to be inserted into your documents. I. DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND A. “Screen capture" utility programs allow you to take a "snapshot" of all or part of the contents displayed on a computer monitor. It is an extremely efficient tool for extracting specific images, text, graphs, or other data from documents. B. "Flash-It" is probably the most popular screen capture utility for Macintosh users. The original version of the program was developed in 1990 by physicist Nobu Toge, who later released a major upgrade of the utility (version 3.0.2) in 1993. II. “HOT KEYS” MODE A. By selecting different combinations of keys ("Hot Keys") from the Flash-It control panel, you can take screen snapshots and save them in various ways. B. While in this mode, you can also Assign or Deassign key combinations and related image destinations by using the buttons in the lower right of the control panel. C. Captured images can be saved to the Clipboard, Scrapbook File, or sent to your Printer. You can also be given the option to "decide on the fly" after simultaneously pressing the control key and 3 key. III. TO USE FLASH-IT A. Flash-It is shareware and can be purchased on the web. Do a search for the program and then send $15.00 to the author after you download it. B. Open your System Folder. C. Place Flash-It inside your control panel. D. Close all open windows. E. Restart your computer. F. To activate Flash-It, select your control panel from the Apple Menu. G. Select Flash-It. H. Select (highlight) the "capture hot key" and "image destination" bar of the control panel. (Reminder: You can assign or deassign your own key combinations). C. After placing your fingers on the individual keys, simultaneously press and quickly release the keys. D. The mouse arrow should have turned into a "cross" character (+). 1. While holding the mouse button down, place the mouse (+) character at the top left of the image to be captured and drag diagonally until the image is encircled. 2. Then release the mouse button - this will cause the "Flash." E. Flash-It has now captured the screen image to the Clipboard. At this point, you are asked what you would like to do with the image: 1. Leave in the Clipboard and quit (retrieve later and use in your work) 2. Save as a PICT-based disk file (convert later into JPG or GIF format if you wish) 3. Save in the Scrapbook desk accessory 4. Send to the Printer V. OPTIONS MODE A. Additional options of "Flash-It" are offered in this mode. Notable features include: 1.
