Nursing Program (ADN)
Program Description
Central Community College is accredited by the
commission on Higher Education of the North
Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The
CCC Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program
is approved by the Nebraska Board of Nursing
and accredited by the Accreditation Commission
for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Graduates are
eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam required to
become a registered nurse (RN). Graduates are
well prepared to practice as an RN in a variety
of settings. The ADN program is offered at the
Grand Island Campus, In addition, the first year
of the program and the nursing block clinical rotations can be completed at the Columbus Campus or Kearney Center.
Admission Criteria & Procedure
Admission is selective and requirements are accomplished through the following steps and must
be completed within two years of application to
the nursing program. Applicants must complete
Step I of the requirements through the Admissions Office.
Step I
1. Complete an application to the college.
2. Complete an application for admission to the
ADN program.

assessment testing. Scores achieved in the
past 3 years will be used to determine eligibility and identify foundation courses that
will be required prior to admission to the
ADN program.
Exam entry scores
All applicants must achieve minimum or higher exam
entry scores in one of the following assessments:
OPTION 1
ACT - Must have composite score of 20, math score
20** and all other subscores 19 or higher.
OPTION 2
COMPASS - Minimum required scores: reading - 76,
writing - 62, algebra 43.**
OR
ASSET - Minimum required scores: reading - 40,
writing - 42, elementary algebra - 43**
AND
COMPLETE 11 credit hours from the ADN program
of study to include 8 credits from the required
sciences (Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Elements of
Chemistry, Microbiology). **Exception to minimum
math score will be made if the applicant has completed college level Elementary Algebra (or higher
level math course) in the previous 3 years with a
grade of “C” or above. A math course outdates 3
years from the date that the course was completed.
3. Submit high school, home school and/or
completed GED transcript. These transcripts
are not required if a student has submitted an
official college transcript indicating completion of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
6. General eduction courses specifically required for the Associate Degree Nursing
program will be used to calculate the Admissions grade point average. The cumulative
GPA of those courses must be at least a 2.8
for admission to the ADN program.

Step II
Upon meeting academic eligibility, the student
will receive a letter confirming their admissions
status. Included with this letter will be:

Acknowledgment form
Each student will need to read, sign and return
the designated forms to the nursing department.
Completion and return of the proper forms is
mandatory before the student will be given a
program entry date based on available openings
in the program. The date of acceptance is the
date the student’s forms arrive in the nursing
department. The Associate Dean of Nursing will
then send a letter notifying the student they have
now met Step II requirements and will give them
a start date.
Prior to beginning coursework in the ADN
program, the student must:
1. Have a cumulative GPA at CCC of at least

2. Complete an American Heart or Red Cross
Health Care Provider CPR course and
maintain certification throughout the program.
3. Attain an active, unencumbered Nebraska
nurse aid (NA) certificate and must be listed
on the Nebraska Nurse Aid Registry. Work
experience as a nurse aid is highly recommended.
Transfer Nursing Courses
For a student wishing to transfer nursing
courses from another institution, the following requirements must be met.
• Official transcript of credits earned from
accredited nursing program must be submitted for evaluation.
• Nursing courses must be equivalent to the
courses in the curriculum with a grade of
C or above. Course syllabi for the nursing
courses must be submitted for evaluation
of equivalency. Courses may transfer if
taken within 1 year of acceptance into the
program at CCC (includes Pharmacology/
Math for Pharmacology).
• The student must meet all admission
criteria.
• The student must maintain a cumulative
CCC GPA of 2.8 after admission.
• Final approval for admission will be recommended by the Associate Dean of Instruction for Nursing.
• Admission must be at the beginning of established courses with prime consideration
of the student/faculty ratio in the nursing
courses.
• The program plan is developed and adopted upon acceptance as a transfer student.
This plan may include competency and
orientation to a clinical facility prior to
enrolling in the nursing courses.
• A minimum of 18 hours of the last nursing
courses must be in the program plan and
completed at Central Community College to
meet graduation requirements.
