Course Description:
Are you an apprentice in the automotive industry looking for the formal learning experience to
complement your practical work based skills and experience? Our Certificate III Automotive
qualifications are for you.

In the Certificate III Automotive Electrical Technology qualification you will acquire the skills
and knowledge required to service, diagnose and repair electrical systems and components in
vehicles in the automotive electrical service and repair industry. Your learning will cover lights,
computer control systems and electrical current technology.

Work Placement
All students enrolled in this course must be apprenticed in the industry. Assessment and
completion of the course requires access to a fully equipped workplace, under supervision. All
our NC TAFE Automotive courses are classroom and blended delivery modes, including
discussions, working in groups, and workplace log books. Students work with real automotive
vehicles and equipment in simulated environments on campus.

Articulation:
Completion of Cert III in any automotive qualification will enable students to be licenced by the
NSW Office of Fair Trading.
Entry Requirements:
Students must be apprenticed to qualify for Smart & Skilled enrolment. Assessment requires
access to a fully equipped workplace under supervision.

As automotives is a very technical and sophisticated industry, students need a high level of literacy and numeracy, including computer
skills, to successfully undertake this qualification.
Literacy and Numeracy
North Coast TAFE wants you to know that while this qualification has no formal entry requirements, we do want you to succeed, so we are
providing information about the skills and knowledge that would help you complete this qualification.
You do need to have, or be able to attain, a level of literacy and numeracy that will help you complete your course and ultimately to work in
your chosen field.
Students who complete this qualification level will have developed a range of technical and communication skills that will enable them to
complete mostly routine tasks and interpret and act on information available to them. They will provide solutions to predictable and
sometimes unpredictable problems and in a work setting may take some responsibility for the work of others.

The NSW Government is offering Fee-Free Scholarships to support people aged 15 - 30 with their training under Smart and Skilled.
Eligible students will be exempt from paying their course fee for qualifications from Certificate I to Certificate IV, including apprenticeship
and traineeships courses with up to 50,000 scholarships per year across NSW starting in July 2015.

Appeals Process:
If you do not agree with the result given for an assessment task, you may appeal the assessment decision. You should first discuss the
assessment result with your teacher. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of that discussion you can access the appeal process
through the staff in the campus administration office.

Assessments
There are assessments for every unit. You will be given at least one week’s notice by your teacher as to the actual assessment date and
you must attend. If you are sick, a phone call to advise of your absence is required. Otherwise, a doctor's certificate will be necessary to
sit for the assessment. For more information on assessment, refer to 'Every Students Guide to Assessment in TAFE NSW' which is
available on the TAFE internet site.

Reasonable Adjustment

Note: Some short, licensing or compliance courses, eg Food Safety for Supervisors or First Aid are not granted RPL as demonstrated
competency is required by regulatory authorities.
