CLAUSEN MEDIUM
Product Number C0596
Product Description
Clausen Medium is recommended for sterility testing.
This medium is a very nutritious medium consisting of
casein enzymic hydrolysate, papaic digest of soyabean
meal, yeast extract and dextrose. L-cystine and
thioglycollate act as reducing agents. The metals help
isolate anaerobic sporeformers. Tween 80 is added to
this medium to overcome the effects of cationic agents
(in combination with lecithin already present in the
formulation) which can exert a bacteriostatic effect in
vitro.
This medium is yellow colored and clear in appearance.
Under aerobic conditions it turns pink. Therefore at the
time of use the upper third of the medium should be
pink.
