EVALUATION OF SUBSTITUTE EMPLOYEES
It is the belief of the Braxton County Board of Education that all employees want to
perform effectively and anticipate periodic feedback concerning their performance. In an attempt
to assist substitute teachers and service personnel as well as administrators to monitor the
performance provided in a substitute setting, the following evaluation procedures and
instruments are provided.
This procedure is to be utilized for all substitute situations except those deemed to be
"long-term", typically one semester or longer. In these circumstances, the regular evaluation
procedures and instruments are to be utilized.
Any unsatisfactory evaluations for substitute are to be forwarded to the Personnel Office
immediately (within two work days of the evaluation). The Personnel Office shall schedule a
conference with the affected substitute within five work days of receipt of the unsatisfactory
evaluation. The conference will be between the substitute teacher, the principal, and the
superintendent.
Satisfactory evaluations are to be forwarded to the Personnel Office by the 20th of each
month. A summary memorandum of such satisfactory evaluations shall be forwarded to each
substitute at the end of each semester.
WHERE PRACTICABLE, ALL SUBSTITUTES SHALL BE EVALUATED BY THE
PRINCIPAL ON THAT SUBSTITUTE'S FIRST ASSIGNMENT TO THAT PRINCIPAL'S
SCHOOL. EVALUATIONS FOR SUBSEQUENT ASSIGNMENTS TO THAT SCHOOL
SHALL BE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE PRINCIPAL.
The attached evaluation forms shall be utilized in the implementation of this policy. Each
is a three-part form to be completed by the substitute employee, the regular employee, and the
building principal/supervisor.
